AN: Prompt number 47 - "That's all you have to say".

Roxas was not having a good day. In fact, he was having a terrible day. It had begun when he'd failed to set his alarm clock, meaning he was late for his Saturday job; only to find, when he finally arrived, that he'd managed to lose his name badge somewhere between his house and the bookshop in which he worked. From that point onwards, things had steadily become worse and worse. He'd been sent home at lunchtime, the shop being so quiet that his assistance wasn't needed. He wouldn't have minded, except for the fact that he needed the money – his rent was due in a few weeks.

Unlocking the door, he went inside, wondering if Axel was awake yet. The redhead seemed to do very little other than sleep at the weekends; not that Roxas minded. There seemed to be a creaking noise coming from upstairs, and even some faint laughter, so it appeared as though Axel was, indeed, awake. It would be good to spend the weekend together as a couple – something they hadn't managed to do throughout their entire six month relationship.

Axel's bedroom door was ajar, and the noises were becoming louder as Roxas approached. The next thing he heard was a female voice calling Axel's name. Determined, now, to find out who was in there with his boyfriend, Roxas entered the room, then stopped in shock. Axel was sprawled on the bed, on his back, hands gripping the hips of a blonde woman Roxas recognised as Larxene.

"Roxas, I…"

"Stuff it, Axel. I don't want to hear your excuses." Roxas found himself holding back bitter tears. Of all the people Axel could have chosen, why did it have to be his ex-girlfriend, Larxene?

"Roxas, please. It wasn't supposed to end this way."

"That's all you have to say?" Roxas turned and stormed out of the room, out of the house. He didn't have any specific destination in mind – he just needed to be alone for a while. Eventually, he found himself at the park, a favourite haunt of his during the summer months. Even now, it had a calming effect on him. He didn't notice, at first, when someone sat down next to him.

"I thought you were working today."

Roxas looked up to find his classmate, Zexion, sitting there. That in itself was a surprise, since Zexion tended to keep himself to himself.

"I was, until lunchtime."

Roxas found himself telling Zexion the whole sorry story, and the other boy sat quietly, listening, until he'd finished. By that time, the tears that Roxas had held back earlier were flowing freely, and he made no attempt to stop them.

"I won't say I understand, because I hate it when people do that, and I won't say I know how you feel, because I don't. If you need to talk, you know where to find me."

"Thanks, Zexion."

"No problem, Roxas."

Over the next few days, Roxas spent most of his free time with Zexion, who he'd never really paid much attention to before. They shared several interests, they discovered, and Roxas regretted not having made the effort to get to know him earlier. Zexion had also offered to share his room with Roxas, since the blond had no wish to live in the same house as his cheating ex-boyfriend. They'd moved Roxas's belongings out, and Axel couldn't help standing there and making snide comments.

"So, you've replaced me with him?"

"I haven't replaced you, as you put it. You're the one who decided you'd rather be with Larxene."

Zexion, more dignified than either of the other two, had wisely remained silent throughout the whole uncomfortable process.

Gradually, they'd moved from roommates and friends to being a couple. There wasn't any great passion in the relationship, like there had been with Axel, but it was comfortable, safe. Sometimes, that was more important, as Roxas had discovered.

It had been called Roxas's rebound relationship by some people, but those comments were ignored or dismissed, even though they may have been partially true.
