Turning The Paige
Prologue: A Closed Chapter
Sometimes life finds unexpected ways of leading you in the direction you were always meant to go. Paige had never been a fan of fate. She never liked the idea that anyone but herself was controlling her own destiny. However, with recent events even she can't deny that every shitty thing that has happened has led her to exactly where she is suppose to be going. Iowa. Yeah, fucking Iowa.
There is one fact that is absolutely, inexplicably, undeniable about Paige McCullers and if you have been paying any attention to this epic tale set in the small yet murderous town of Rosewood, PA then you know that that one fact is Paige McCullers is truly, wholly, and completely in love with Emily Fields. Most people don't believe in love at first sight, Paige was one of those skeptics. Before laying eyes on Emily the idea that anyone could believe they were in love with a person by just looking at them seemed foolish. Paige would often wonder, who were these naive people who believed they could simply glance at someone and instantly know that person was everything they could possibly want in a partner? But of course, Paige became one of these people. She became one of these foolish, naive people who pine for someone they don't even really know. That was just the beginning of a very long, twisty, often treacherous love story but this isn't that story. No, that story ended long ago.
Here's the thing about books, you can read a great book over and over a hundred times but you can't read it again for the first time. The story of Emily and Paige was like a great novel but after the final page has been read, it should have been put back on the shelf. Paige didn't want that though, she wanted to hold on to what they had for as long as possible. She wanted the story she had in her mind of what a future with Emily would look like to be reality and maybe she made some rash decisions to will it to happen. Moving back to Rosewood when she heard Emily had returned and then taking a job at Rosewood High, Paige would be lying if she said she didn't come back for Emily. Yes, Paige came back to the hellmouth of Pennsylvania to win back the woman she was in love with and start a real adult life together. Here's another thing about books, sometimes the author just wants to throw a fucking curve ball at you and change everything you ever expected to happen. Books are a lot like life and the author of Paige's fate decided that she would not find a happily ever after in Rosewood with Emily. However, Paige's return to Rosewood did provide her with something that she had needed for a long time. The solace in knowing that Emily and Paige could live a long life together and maybe even a happy life together but the person Paige was so completely in love with would always be in love with someone else. I know that doesn't sound like very reassuring information to recieve but the known is always more comforting than the unknown. For years the unknown had been would Emily pick Ali over her? Did Emily still love Ali? Yes and Yes.
Paige knew that tearful goodbye with Emily would be their last. For Paige, it had to be. It hurt too much to know that she wasn't Emily's person and that the life she had planned for them in her mind was never anything more than fiction. The journey with Emily was a beautiful one and she learned so much from being in love with Emily but every journey must end and every book must have a final chapter. For Paige, she had the closure she needed to start a new story. Perferably one without black hoodies, dolls, kidnapping, sleuthing, and murder.
