She didn't cry... it wasn't acceptable... So not a single tear fell.
Although seeing the fear in their eyes, as a young girl murdered them, begging to please spare them, made her want to weep, she didn't. Crying was unacceptable. It showed weakness. And so when she killed, she showed no emotion. As she took your lifeblood, she was a statue. Unmerciful, never showing what was behind her stone mask.
But she was human, and all humans have a breaking point. So she ran. She ran to where she thought it was safe, America. There, she joined with S.H.I.E.L.D, and became their best asset along with her partner. And when she met them, The Avengers, she was a friend. But all friends have secrets, some too dark to share. And so they didn't know.
She wasn't heartless at Coulson's funeral, she was strong.
She wasn't insensitive all those times. Those times when everyone was sobbing but her. She was strong.
Natalia never cried, and so in her eyes she was strong.
But sometimes our eyes can be mistaken...
