A.N: Tumblr is going crazy over this lovely picture: http : / / sg09 . deviantart. com / gallery / # / d49fenc so I wanted to write something...

I regret nothing.

It wasn't a widely known fact.

Amongst nations Denmark could probably count on one hand who knew about it.

But that was really just nice.

Sitting at the edge of the pier with his bare feet in the water he glanced across the ocean – looking for any sign of movement.

Most of the time he could never sit still, but for things like this? He could be like the mountains themselves.

Losing himself in the beautiful sunset scenery he was not at all prepared for the sudden tugging at his feet. Staring down in the water a wide grin spread across his face.

"Well hello there little lady" he laughed as the familiar figure under the water waved up at him

"had a nice trip?"

the redhead nodded eagerly as she rose up to the surface.

"I did! Do you have a story for me Mr Denmark?" the young mermaid enquired with an eager voice. Had she been on land she would have jumped up and down in excitement. Ariel settled for swishing her emerald green tail back and forth instead.

"Nah, but I've got something better" the Dane replied with a knowing smile.

This definitely caught the young mermaids attention as she tugged harder at his leg

"what is it? I want to know!" she pleaded up at him.

Denmark laughed and pulled out a pen from his pocket, handing it to the eager redhead.

Ariel twisted and turned the plastic pen until pressing the button on the top made the pen appear. "What does it do?" she finally asked as she continued to press the button again and again. Enjoying the satisfying click the pen gave every time.

"It's a 'pen' and we use it for writing and drawing...that one there works under water"

this made Ariel even more excited as she began to look for something to test this 'pen' thing out on.

Frowning at the lack of drawing materials around the pier she settled for trying it out on her hand.

A childish smile full of glee appeared as the blue ink from the pen stayed on her hand as she continued to doodle all over her arm.

"this thing is amazing"

"Glad you like it" he hummed as he watched her be so easily amused by something so simple.

After a few minutes Ariel had ran out of space on her own arm, but this didn't stop her. Before Denmark could even protest his legs and arms (and generally anything not covered in clothes) were covered in the young mermaids doodles.

Not that he particularly minded. The young woman had a real knack for drawing sea serpents.

By the time to sun had completely sun beneath the horizon, both Denmark and Ariel were covered in little ballpoint tattoos.

Bidding the redhead goodbye, the Dane slowly headed back into town.

"Nice tattoos" a familiar voice commented as Denmark was about to unlock his front door.

"Heh, ya think so Nor?" Denmark grinned at the shorter Nordic, flexing his muscles to make one of the sea-serpents wriggle.

"I hope they come off...because if not no one will take your seriously at the next meeting" Norway was secretly a little amused, he liked that Denmark still upheld a love for the 'invisible' "...not that they ever do anyway" he added with a small smirk.

Denmark gave a sheepish smile before inviting his neighbour in for a late night drink. Out of all the others, Norway was probably the only one who wouldn't laugh or mock him for spending time with mermaids.

Even with the help of Norway, Denmark still couldn't get rid of all the ink on his body (although he insisted the large sea-serpent on his left leg to be left alone for the time being anyway).

So for a good two weeks he had to settle for the odd looks the other nations gave him during meetings, mentally he made a note to not get Ariel another pen this waterproof ever again. Next time he'd bring her a flute, or a small drum.
