Kurt walked down the pathway, humming to himself. It was a lovely autumn day.

"Where are you going?" Mercedes asked, falling in stride with him. Kurt shrugged.

"I don't know."

Mercedes looked sad, and opened her mouth to say something, but a foreign voice came from it. "The patient is going into cardiac arrest! I repeat, the patient is going into cardiac arrest!"

Kurt blinked in confusion. "Are you feeling okay, Mercedes?"

She nodded. "I'll see you later, boo." And she was gone.

Kurt kept walking, till he came upon Rachel. She looked mad.

"Kurt Hummel, where do you think you're going?"

He shook his head. "I don't know."

She crossed her arms, struggling to keep up with his long strides. "Kurt, come on. The patient is not responding. He's going into a coma. Somebody get Doctor Stevens."

"Rachel?" Kurt turned around, but Rachel was gone. He frowned, and kept walking.

"Dude, where are you going?" Finn was there now, overpowering his strides easily. Kurt walked around him, still humming.

"I don't know."

"Then why are you still walking?" Finn pouted. "I mean- Kurt, please wake up. Please."

"Pardon?" Kurt slowed his pace, looking oddly at Finn. Finn shrugged.

"I just said that you should look at a- Kurt. We need you. Please come back to us."

Kurt looked around, scared for the first time. Finn was gone. He kept walking.

"Buddy, where are you going?" Dad was there, and Kurt felt safer. He slowed his pace so stay in stride with his father.

"I don't know." Burt shook his head disapprovingly.

"Kid, you always have a plan and know where you're going."

"I know, Dad. But not today." Kurt looked ahead, to the never-ending path. "I like it better this way."

Burt sighed. "You're so like your mother. Kurt, can you hear me?"

Kurt looked over. "Of course I can."

But Burt was gone. Kurt felt his heart sink, but he kept walking.

"Where are you going?" Kurt reached a fork in the road, and Blaine stood there, waiting for him.

"I don't know."

Blaine smiled softly. "Well, it's time to decide."

Kurt examined both paths. One was clear, well defined, and disappeared neatly over the horizon. The other was clouded with trees and winded into oblivion, with a mystical gold light filtering through the leaves. Kurt smiled and pointed at the latter.

"Are you sure?"

"As I'll ever be," Kurt murmured. He felt panic gnawing at his gut. "Blaine, I'm scared."

The hazel-eyed boy took his hand. "I'll be with you."

"Until the end?"

"Until the end."

Above them, storm clouds rumbled, each whisper of the wind bringing a message of Kurt wake up… or He's convulsing! Doctor! or Don't leave me. Please.

Kurt walked down the road, holding tightly onto Blaine's hand. He didn't know where he was going, but it didn't matter.

It was a lovely autumn day.
