Chapter 1: Secrecy
"No!"
"Don't worry, Soul,"
Soul looked up instantly and saw Dr. Stein standing over him. Soul was breathing heavily, his eyes shut over and over again, trying to calm down. His fists were clenched tightly into a ball in uncontrollable anger.
"It's all right," the doctor told Soul as kind as he could manage. He wasn't too good with people since he devoted his life to science.
"No! It's not 'alright!'" Soul growled as his glare met the professor.
"Soul, you have to-" Stein said in an attempt to try to comfort his student but it didn't work because of Soul's fury. He snatched Stein's hand off his shoulder.
"Get your hands off me! You're not helping!" Soul yelled followed by a snarl, showing Stein his shark like teeth.
Soul pushed Stein out of his way and stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind him. He bit his tongue in frustration and heaved a unsteady sigh. He could feel his heart shriveling into nothingness. He felt guilty and dumb at the same time. Soul didn't mean to be so cold to Stein, but he didn't really want to be comforted or have a talk with anyone at the moment. All he wanted was to go back in time and fix things that he did and didn't do. As he stood in the vacant hallway staring at the floor, an object ran into him with tremendous speed.
Soul saw a pair of shoes come to his view and thought, Gray and black, with a star!
"Hey, Soul! Are you okay?" Soul's best friend, Black*Star inquired with eager, jade eyes.
Soul looked up to see his friend, only to give him an expressionless gaze until his crimson eyes quietly flickered back to the floor. Black*Star noticed that he didn't respond to him and began to shake him violently.
"What happened, Soul?! What happened?! What happened to Maka?!" Black*Star shouted as he shook Soul.
Soul's expression suddenly turned fierce and pushed him away and yelled, "I don't know Black*Star! I don't even know if Maka will-" Soul suddenly stopped and looked at his feet once again.
"Keep going, Soul! 'I don't know what?'" Black*Star urged as he stood a safe distance from him.
Soul looked as if he was going to explode as his glare deepened viciously. He began to shake and he said, trying to hold back his anger, "STOP pressuring me! Do you even care how I'm feeling?!You are incapable of caring for anything! You senseless fool!"
Black*Star was taken aback by what his friend said to him. He had believed that he was the most important thing to Soul until now. He didn't know what he said was even hurtful until he lashed out at him like he did.
"Um..Soul..I'm really...sorry. I-I'm just not good at these kinds of things, honestly," Black*Star apologized as his eyes softened.
"Thanks, Black*Star but I just need..someone else to talk to right now. And I know you've been through some crap too so, I'm sorry too," Soul replied with a frown as he looked at his friend.
"Hey, how about you talk to Tsubaki? She's good at this stuff. I'm sure she could help you better than me," Black*Star suggested as he walked up to him and put his hand on his shoulder softly.
Soul's expression didn't change and he gently took his hand off his shoulder and said, "Thanks but no thanks, Black*Star. I think I know who I need to talk to,"
Then he tightened his black leather jacket and left Black*Star alone without another word.
"Wait, Soul! Come back!" Black*Star called but then tripped over his own feet miserably.
I have to find him, Soul thought to himself. I have to talk to him.
