Beverly Holiday remembered waking up early that morning, the day that changed everything. She remembered the sweet smell of the morning dew. The sparkling tree leaves falling on the ground, guided by a gentle , that wasn't what made her wake up, she had woken up early that morning because of a nightmare.
She grabbed her pink teddy bear, the one her sister gave to her when she started having nightmares, she dreamt she was a HATED spiders. "How ironic.." She remembered her sister saying when she had told her "I guess life needs to remind you that you can't always hate things."She was scared of spiders, she had been since a large spider made an appearance in her crib when she was a year and a half. "No." She said as her head started spinning
"No!" She gripped her head, everything was spinning and she started to parents and older sister, Rebecca Holiday, a remarkable female doctor with several doctorates, came in. She felt her mother's arms wrap around her as she was screaming in agony for her mind and body to stop hurting. She felt as if every muscle in her body was on fire. She screamed as loud as she could when she felt her body mutating. In a matter of minutes, it was over. And standing in front of them was a giant monster spider, not their baby girl.
"Beverly!" Her father called as he and Rebecca watched the youngest Holiday sink her fangs and claws into the very woman that brought her and Rebecca into the world. After the youngest Holiday dropped her mother and pounced on her father. She was so close, she felt his fear.
"No!" Yelled Beverly as she sat up in her bed, she had been at Providence for a week now, but the nightmares wouldn't stop. They continued to haunted her for the past five years, it was as if she was being told not to get comfortable, not now. She looked at the new pink teddy bear that her sister had bought for her the second Beverly said she wished she still had her old one.
She held it close to her and cried into the soft pink fabric. She was terrified. Terrified that she would become a monster again. Afraid for those around her, worried that she would hurt them. She hated that feeling. Another reminder that she would never be free. Not while the world was still needing a savior, a cure, something to end the purge of fear the Nanite event left.
Beverly, still holding the teddy bear, walked to her sisters room in the dark. She squeezed the bear as if it was her savior, and knocked on the door. She heard someone yawn and groan at once and then the door opened to reveal her sister Rebecca. Her sister's tired light mint green eyes stared into her frightened light green eyes. "What's wrong?" She said, her tired voice filled with concern
"I had a nightmare.. The one that I had before I turned into that- That monster…" Beverly was trying so hard not to cry, but she was shaking and her voice was changing in pitch
"It's okay Beverly.." Rebecca said as she guided the youngest member of her family to in her room and turning on the light.
"I had the exact same dream before I became an EVO, even after I was an EVO, the dream wasn't and isn't going to go away." Rebecca motioned for her younger sister to sit on her bed, knowing that she needed comfort, just like before she turned into that huge mutant spider.
Beverly put her head down on one of Rebecca's pillows, making her older sister and only living family member smile, as the older sibling got onto the bed with the younger Holiday and pulled the blanket over them both.
"Thanks.." Beverly said, starting to fall asleep. Rebecca smiled as Beverly began to fall asleep. Seeing her sister breathing in and out calmed her. She dozed off as well.
