Aang sat on the warm sand, watching the sun set. With Appa gone, they were stuck in the desert, and would have to find their way out by foot. Not to mention, Sokkawas droozy on cactus juice...again. Aang kicked the sand in anger. This was all Toph's
/fault. Because of her, the Sandbenders had taken Appa away, and who knows where he is by now. Surely she did it on purpose; after all, Toph blamed Appa for leading Azula to them. His shedding was out of then guilt trickled down his back.
She had saved them from being completely submerged under the sand. And Aang had completely lashed out on her. He had to apologize. He stood with a start, the stars already starting to peek out from the darkening sky. He made his way toward Toph, who
sat
staring into the distance with her knees tucked into her chest, and her arms wrapping around them. She was silent as the young Avatar plopped next to her. Finally, she spoke.
"Everything around me is dark. I can barely see anything in this terrain. The sand makes everything seem...mushed," she said slowly. "I couldn't feel or hearthe sandbenders approach. I couldn't do anything about Appa. I needed you guys out from
the library..." the blind girl managed. Then it was silent once more.
"What do the stars look like? The night sky?"
Aang looked at her. How was he to describe something so beautiful, something that this girl had never seen before? He tried to match her thinking. "Think of pebbles, tiny rocks, spread across a field of black, crumby dirt. The pebbles are shining bright,
so
bright you can feelthem reflect on your eyes..." Toph sat there once more, staring. But a smileflickered across her face, for the first time in a while.
"Toph, I-"
"It's okay, Twinkletoes," the earthbender interrupted, holding up a hand in his direction. "I forgive you."
