Ryou entered the hospital room that had become horribly familiar to him, holding a bouquet of purple lilacs.
He sat down on the edge of her bed, watching Shino's expression. Every time he came he prayed that it had changed, hoped against hope that he might see some tiny movement… some indication.
The nurses knew him by name, watched him with sad eyes as they just shook their heads to tell him that no, Shino was still… still Lost.
But he had learned to ignore those sad eyes.
"Good morning, Shino," he whispered. He always got here early, so that no one else would bother him. "It's been a couple days, I'm sorry. Finals came up, y'know?" he said.
He smiled softly and brushed her hair out of her eyes, his own dark brown filled with a rare warmth.
The morning was a golden one with a pure sapphire sky, not a single cloud visible, the light soft and warm despite how crisp the actual air was. Winter had started to settle in.
"I've met Endrance- well, Elk. His name is Kaoru. He's nice… He seemed pretty closed still, after everything that happened with Mia but… I think he's getting better. I mean… we've been talking for a while now so…" he paused, "I think I'd like to get to know him better."
He told her about the week before, meeting Kaoru for coffee while at his parent's house, visiting. He had accidentally run into him, and he had recognized the other's voice- that uniquely smooth voice. He had been glad to find someone who knew about everything that had happened in 'real life', someone who… understood. Someone he could just talk to, someone truly tangible. Even in his every-day life he was fairly closed with everyone but… he was always trying to do everything on his own, keeping distant. This was a rare opportunity—someone that he wanted to get close to.
"Hey, Shino… you need to come back soon. We're doing everything we can. Don't worry- it's not going to be too much longer," he said, and paused again, "I miss you."
He held her hand and gently pressed his lips to her forehead before tucking one of the lilacs behind her ear. Ryou slowly stood and put the flowers by the window, and they seemed quite nearly luminescent in the early morning sunlight.
"See you tomorrow, Shino."
Purple lilacs symbolize first love.
A/N: Goodness gracious. ;AAAA; This was so terribly depressing to write. So uhm, I desperately hope that poor Ryou/Haseo isn't too out of character, but.... thank you so much for reading!!! I love you guuuuuys!
