Trudy, Adrian and Leland I do not own

*For the sake of this story Adrian's car at home is the same police car he uses at work

"Hey sweetie," Adrian kissed his wife, "Leland's giving me a ride today. I'll be home as soon as I can"

"Okay hon. I love you"

"Trudy," he asked reluctantly

"Yeah. What is it darling?"

"Are you still mad at me about the other day," he asked tears pooling in his eyes.

She walked over to him and wrapped her arms around him.

"Adrian sit down," she told him after she had disentangled from the embrace.

He listened to her as he always does.

"I wasn't angry with you in the first place," she told him, "I was angry and frustrated about the situation. I was not angry with you. I couldn't be angry with you."

"I tried to do it," he told her, "I just couldn't"

Just then Leland honked the horn.

"See you tonight," he told her.

Just as he left the phone rang.

"Hello?"

It was her brother-in-law, Ambrose and he sounded sick as a dog.

"Hey (cough) it's (cough) me (sneeze)"

"You sound like heck"

"Heck (cough) would (sneeze) be an (cough) improvement. I hate to bother you (cough) but would you mind (cough) picking up my (cough) prescription (cough)"

"That's not a bother," she said, "of course I will"

"Thank you," he said, "it's (cough) already been called in"

Trudy's car was in the shop so she had to take Adrian's car. It was icy and the road was slippery. Another car, clearly a drunk driver ran into the car she was driving. The car was smashed to smithereens and Trudy was injured in the accident.

Meanwhile Adrian and Leland were on a case when Leland's phone rang.

"Excuse me," he said and picked up the phone.

There was a pause.

"Yeah he's here (pause) when? (pause) okay we'll be right there."

"Leland," Adrian asked, "what is it… something happen"

Leland sighed and put a hand on his friend's shoulder.

"It's Trudy. She was in an accident. She was injured, has a broken leg and two broken arms. The car was destroyed… she's pretty upset"

They got down to the hospital in 10 minutes though for Adrian it was the LONGEST ten minutes of his life. By that time she was already set. The casts were already.

"We had to take the bracelets off," the doctor told Adrian and Leland, "it would have cut into her circulation if it stayed on with the casts on."

"I have to see her," Adrian replied.

"Mr. Monk I should warn you your wife is very scarred up at the moment both physically and emotionally"

"I have to see her," Adrian repeated.

Once he got there he saw Trudy was shaken up. After she calmed down somewhat, to the point where she was able to talk she said, "the car was destroyed"

"Trudy," he said firmly, "listen to me and listen VERY closely."

She looked at him, giving him her full attention

"I don't," he said, "give a rat's tail about the car. I care deeply about and love the driver of the car. The car as well as the situation can be fixed. People cannot be fixed so easily and all that matters is that you're going to be okay"

"Really," she whispered

He nodded stroking her hair.

"I love you my AMOUR," he told her.
