A/N: I know this is not in the vein of the other Downtime fictions, but I've always had this little scenario kicking around in the far reaches of my head. A flash fiction will get it out of the dusty corner.
Thanks Ice and Shadow for giving me a chance to share it. And to Koinekid for the brief beta.
294 without my babbling.
Laura frowned after the door opened and a tall man entered. Not him. Taking deep breaths she fought to relax. Her time in the Corp was winding down and she honestly didn't know what to do after. Today might be the beginning of something new or the continuation of something old.
Another swish of the door led to more disappointment for her. Unable to keep from looking at the clock over the counter, it confirmed her suspicions. He's not coming. It was five minutes past the specified time. He has no reason to be late anymore, no crazy schedule to keep.
His dependable nature, warm smile and bright blue eyes attracted her to him from the moment they met. Their chaotic lifestyles led to their downfall. Maybe now…
Another swish and the McKays entered. They'd invested so much effort into this blind date that Laura felt terrible her date didn't show so she ducked her head to avoid detection. He must have found out it was me they were setting him up with.
"May I sit here?"
Laura's head snapped up and she met the gaze she'd fallen in love with three years ago, partially obscured behind flowers.
"Sorry. Can you forgive me?" Carson asked.
Laura smiled and sat up straight. "Don't…"
"I tried to find something blue."
"You remembered," Laura beamed. She'd avoided this clone of her Carson since he'd been found. After a lot of prodding by Jennifer she agreed to meet with him on her day off.
"I'd never forget your favorite color or you, Laura," the Scot confessed as he took her hand.
Laura realized after today, she might never want to leave again. Drowning in the blue eyes that haunted her dreams, the Marine was finally content.
