Jason sat and stared into the fireplace. The house seemed eerily quiet with Elizabeth and the boys gone, but he couldn't really say that he wasn't more than a little relieved to finally be alone with his thoughts.
Liz had gone to stay with Audrey until he could get his things moved back into the penthouse and after the arguing and accusations the last few months he had to admit that he would be happy to be back home.
Home… that's a laugh. He hadn't felt at home for the last five months… not since she had left… or more to the point not since he had told her to leave.
They had searched for her for, but no one, not even Spinelli or Stan could find any trace of her. The only reason they knew that she wasn't dead or a kidnap victim was because she had packed up clothes and pictures and had sent even Jax divorce papers from the Dominican Republic. After that bit of a paper trail she had vanished without a trace.
Sonny had been convinced that she was just off pouting or trying to make Jason come after her to apologize, and then he had grown angry spouting all kinds of accusations about her abandoning the boys. That was one of the hardest things for Jason to understand. Carly loved her boys, she had to have a good reason for leaving them… Had his angry tirade caused another breakdown?
A knock on the door and Max's voice announcing Alexis on his doorstep was the last thing he had expected.
"Alexis? Did Elizabeth send you over?" Jason felt his gut tighten. He had thought that they had ended their relationship on good terms and worked custody of Jake out, but apparently he had been wrong.
"Elizabeth? No, I have something else I need to discuss with you." Alexis looked so serious that Jason could only assume that her business with him had to involve Sonny, Sam or their business.
"I will not discuss Sonny… or anything involving Sam…" Jason began wearily. It was always the same, the conversations he had with Alexis.
"Jason. You need to sit down and shut up." She interrupted him abruptly. Something in her tone caught his attention.
"Ok, you have about five minutes…" Jason sat on the couch and looked at her impatiently.
"What I am doing goes against the client-attorney relationship and believe it or not will break a promise made to a friend, but there are extenuating circumstances." Alexis reached into her purse and pulled out a book. "This is from Carly. You can call me at home." She handed him the book and left not even giving him a chance to recover from his surprise."
Gingerly he fingered the cover of the book. What was this about?
Opening it he recognized the familiar handwriting instantly. Sitting back on the couch he flipped through several pages and realized that this was a Journal of sorts… written like a letter to him and it began the day Carly vanished from his life.
