AUTHOR'S NOTE: I made a post in my LiveJournal, offering to write drabbles on request. This is one of the resulting ficlets. In this case, Freyna asked for a story about Glaurung...yes, I know the book says he's male, but I took some liberties. After all, how DO you sex a dragon...?
She was not certain what to make of it.
With claws that could rend stone, she ensnared the squeaking hatchling to examine it. It was the wrong color -- sooty, not shining metallic -- and the deformities...!
The dragon shook her head with a disappointed chuff. The baby shrieked as that terrible grip tightened--
"Hold."
A deep velvet voice, melodious in the dark. Reluctantly, Glaurung relinquished the malformed infant into its father's care. If he wished to spare such a obvious mistake, well, so be it.
Safe in Melkor's arms, the black hatchling furled damp wings and fell asleep.
