AUTHOR'S NOTE: I made a post in my LiveJournal, offering to write drabbles on request. This is one of the resulting ficlets. In this case, Jewelweed asked for a story about Beruthiel and, preferably, the Corsairs. Am I the only person in the world who writes about Beruthiel? If so, it's a crying shame.

Braglorin stared at the cat. The cat stared at Braglorin. One was bleeding from four scratches across the cheek; the other hung from a fistful of scruff, glaring balefully.

The corsair captain sighed as his crew scrambled to catch other feline visitors. Holding the sulky animal at arm's length, he eyed the woman they'd fished from the wreckage of a sinking schooner.

"So. You say you're the queen of Gondor...?"

Beruthiel drew herself up, dark hair flying loose in the wind, still regal in salt-stained robes. "I was," she replied quietly, and the approaching storm reflected in her grey gaze.
