This is set in the universe of my one-shot 'One Short Day in New York City'. The idea for this little one-shot came to mind when I was listening to the Wicked soundtrack (as I do all the time!) and, well, I just couldn't help but write this down! I really hope you like it! :) Thanks and enjoy.
"And the nominees are…"
April Rhodes, the co-presenter of this award smiled as she read from the teleprompter in front of her. She couldn't be happier! She had already won a Tony here tonight, and all of her dreams were finally coming true! Really, could it get any better then this? No, April didn't think it could. As she read the list of contenders out loud into the microphone, April beamed with sheer happiness and glee. Finally she got to the last two nominees.
"…Shelby Corcoran…" April called, and the camera zoomed so the people at home could see her co-star. She looked great, and about as happy as April. "…and Rachel Berry." The camera zoomed again, and focused on Rachel. She looked great and happy, too. Once April confused her for Shelby…she gets their identities mixed up sometimes because they just look so much alike!
Talk about like mother like daughter…
"And the Tony goes to…" Quinn Fabray, April's co-presenter for this award and fellow Broadway star and Tony winner paused, and opened the envelope with the winner's name in it. She smiled to herself, and then read the name out loud. "…Rachel Berry!"
Again the camera zoomed and rotated. The audience cheered loudly and enthusiastically. Then, the camera turned to Shelby, and everyone looked at her, knowing she was Rachel's mom. She was smiling and clapping, and by how happy she was, you would have thought that she had just won. But she didn't…her daughter did. And that was even better.
Rachel was handed her Tony and she clutched onto it for dear life. She was beaming too as Quinn handed her the statue. The co-stars hugged, and then April hugged Rachel too, as if saying: congrats, kid. Your dreams officially have come true.
Rachel smiled, and stepped up to the microphone to make her acceptance speech.
"Well…take that, Mom!" The audience cheered and laughed wildly. The camera whooshed to Shelby…she was cheering and laughing wildly, too. "But seriously, I wouldn't be standing here if it weren't for Shelby Corcoran…" The audience cooed 'awww!' "Literally, I wouldn't be standing here…because I wouldn't be alive…so thanks, Mommy!" The audience cheered some more. "I have so many people I want to thank, and I don't want to forget anyone…but first and foremost I want to thank my amazing husband, Finn…I love you!" Quinn loudly cheered awww! "And of course my beautiful daughter…go to bed, Bella! And my amazing co-star, Quinn here! I owe half of this to her! Thank you to Jesse St. James and the rest of our co-stars, and to Mr. Shuster and the New Directions. Thank you!"
