A Song for Snape: The Girl with Jewel-Like Eyes

It started on the playground
With spying every day
At the red-haired, green-eyed girl who came
To swing and jump and play

He gazed with greed and hunger
At that girl with jewels for eyes
And he waited for the day when he
Could take her by surprise

He tried to tell her who she was
Instead, he made her mad
And she left him standing all alone-
Resentful, feeling bad

But when he'd made up for his slip
She warmed and ceased to glare
And soon they were the best of friends
And he could always stare

But then school came and they were set
Upon two different roads
They met with different company
They followed different codes

And though he tried to keep it up
He couldn't help but see
The difference that set them apart,
Said they could never be

But only on that dreaded day
He knew that they were over
For him, she tried to make amends
And in return, he hurt her

He tried, oh yes, he really tried
To make her smile, look back
But she made it very clear-
They were on different tracks

He had no choice, so he moved on
His work was dark and sly
But always, he remembered
The girl with gem-like eyes

His Master was unmerciful
With those he wanted dead
And he found out that the next kill
Was to be his red-head

He turned to beg a wise old man
For rescue from her fate
Her husband and her son could die
But she had to be saved

But she perished with her spouse
Only their boy was left
And so he swore that with his life
He'd stop the baby's death

He managed to protect the boy
Through fake facades and lies
And as he died, what he last saw
Were those boy's jewel-like eyes

The Master was defeated
And nineteen years from then
The boy had his own family-
A wife and three children

And second of those children
The one that shared his name
Had hair just like his father
And his eyes too were the same

They were her eyes.
