A Friend In Need

Brennan was sitting on her couch working on her latest book when there was a knock on her door. After saving her work and put down her laptop and answer her door expecting it to be Booth. However, on the other side of the door was Hodgins not Booth.

"Hodgins, what are you doing here?" asked Brennan as she opened the door to allow him to enter her apartment.

"I needed to talk to someone. If you're busy, I can leave" Hodgins answered as he made his way over the couch.

"No, it's fine. Is everything okay?" Brennan noticed the look of overwhelming sadness on this face. She was suddenly very concerned for her friend. She noticed that Hodgins remained silent as they made themselves comfortable, Hodgins on the couch and her on the chair across from him. After a few minutes of silent, Brennan was going to ask Hodgins again but before she could open her mouth, he answered.

"Angela and Wendell are together."

It suddenly dawned on Brennan that this is what Booth must have seen in at the restaurant the other night. Realizing that Hodgins was waiting for her to say something, she said the only thing that came to her mind. "I'm sorry."

Hodgins just nodded at this and sat in silence for a few more minutes. "It's not like I thought that we wouldn't move on, but I wasn't expecting it to be with someone from the lab. I know that it's been over a year but I still love her. How am I supposed to deal with seeing them together around the lab?"

Brennan thought about what she could say that would make her friend feel better. "Hodgins, I'm not sure what to say to make you feel better, but I can't see Angela flaunting her relationship with Wendell around the lab. She still cares about you, and I'm here for you if you need a friend."

Hodgins looked at Brennan with a thoughtful expression before saying, "Thank you, I think I just needed to talk to someone about it. It's late, I should go."

Hodgins stood up and made his way to the door. As he was half-way there, Brennan spoke. "Would you like to stay? We could have some wine and watch cheesy movies."

Hodgins stood still with his back facing Brennan for a minute before turning around with a small smile on his face and answered, "Sure, I'd like that."
