Draco Malfoy ran a hand through his hair again as he, his parents and his cousin Nymphadora Tonks waited for the Hogwarts express to come there. He chewed on his lip nervously and finally asked the question bugging him since, well, forever.
"Father, what if I'm not in Slytherin? "
"I cannot say I will not be disappointed, but I wouldn't disinherit you unless I have a death wish." his father said, gravely. "It would be better if you redeem us Malfoys. The wizarding world will know we are changed. "
Lucius had bowed to the dark side before, but knowing better , he'd sought Dumbledore's help and was a member of the Order of the Phoenix now.
Narcissa had broken their prejudice against muggle-borns and had gotten comfortable with her sister Andromeda , whose teen daughter she had taken under her care for a bit.
Draco smiled as the train came and bid farewell to his family and pulled his trunk along the corridor till a empty compartment.
"Mind if I sit here?" he asked politely to the sole occupant, a bushy-haired first year.
"Not in the slightest." She smiled at him. "Here, let me help you."
"What's your name?" he asked rather curiously. He certainly hadn't seen her but her warm brown eyes felt so recognizable and welcoming.
"Hermione Granger. Yours?"
"Draco Malfoy. Have I seen you?"
"Um… I don't think so. I'm all new to this. My parents aren't magical, you see." She said, flushing.
"Oh, so you're a muggle-born."
"Is that bad?"
Draco thought for a while."For some people, yes. But I don't care. We could still be friends."
"Thanks. Um, I'll just be back in a bit."
"Hi again" Hermione said as she sat down. "I just met Harry Potter and a gingerhead sitting with him, some Ron Weasley."
"So, how does he look?" Draco said raising his brows a little.
Hermione wanted to say 'oh, just normal. you're better.' but she said "Black hair, green eyes and a scar. His glasses were sort of broken, so I fixed them." She said a bit smugly.
"We're close to school. Lets change into robes." Draco said after laughing. But he was amused at the fact that a muggle born could do a bit of magic before learning. Maybe she had read the books.
