Eona—Lost

A cruel smile played across the soldier's lips. "If only Heavenly Emperor Sethon
could see this," he snarled. The blood slowly oozed out of the wound in my
throat.
I heard a sudden scream of rage—Kygo.
"Sethon," I sputtered, "Sethon is no...no emperor. He...he." I coughed.
"No!" Kygo shouted. He snatched the knife away from the soldier. He growled out,
"I will rip out each of your internal organs and let you watch me impale them!"
"Wouldn't you rather save your precious Naiso?"
With a snarl of frustration, Kygo wheeled around to face me. Abruptly his eyes
teared up. "Eona," he whispered, "I can't lose you. What about Ryko and Kinra?"
"You...take care...them. You'll be...g...good father. I l...love
y...you..Kygo. C...c...can't t..talk m..much...more. G...g..good b...b..bye."
I heaved a wet, rattling cough and prepared to greet my ancestors.

"Again."
It felt like it had been days since the training had started, though it had only
been a few hours. Kygo—my father—was training us in combat. Today was swords. I
was drenched in sweat and Ryko wasn't much better.
"Straighten your back Kinra! Ryko, keep your swords even!" He shouted.
Despite his sharp tone, I could see the pride in my father's eyes.
"That's enough," he called, "Go clean up."

My father looked up from the stew he was eating. "I can see the question in your
eyes. What is it?"
I swallowed, nervous about the touchy subject I was about to bring up.
"I want to know more about our mother. All I know is she was important and you
loved her."
He straightened. Across from me, Ryko leaned forward, eager for the answer. I
feared he would not answer. Finally, after what seemed like hours, he began.
"Her name was Eona. You remember the stories of the Dragoneyes, don't you?" He
didn't wait for an answer. "When I first met her, she was masquerading around as
a tweleve year old Dragoneye lord—Lord Eon. After my father—the emperor—died,
she revealed her true identity. We tried to kill each other on the spot, but
somehow we worked out an agreement. After my evil uncle Sethon stole the throne,
I fled. Eventually, I was taken to an inn. I'd heard about what Sethon did—kill
my mother and infant brother, send the land into turmoil—I went into a killing
rage. Somehow, Eona—your mother managed to pull me out. I admit at first I
forgot about her,uh, revelation, but when I remembered, I saw her in a new
light. After a short time, I made her my Naiso. I was very attracted to her, but
I had trust issues. After some time, we were building a relationship, but both
of us still held secrets. Sethon kidnapped her, just after we had unwound them
all. Sethon held her will, and he wanted to kill me and retrieve the imperial
pearl.
Later, she healed me after she broke out of his command. I feared she would
control my will, but she planned to give up her powers. She did, but Ido stabbed
me to use my life as a bargaining tool. He's the one that wanted the power of
all the dragons. He almost had it—then it killed him. I was nearly dead, but the
Mirror Dragon healed me. Then I made your mother my empress, and somewhere along
the line you two came along. She...She died when you were three. I miss her
dearly every day, but I promised I would take care of you. That's why I've
trained you since you were young. Now that you two are 16, I think you can take
good care of yourselves."
