Hello! A book of one-shots, yay! This is the first, 'I'm a medicine cat'. Hope you enjoy it! Please review!
"I'm a medicine cat.
I heal warriors when they need it most. From the smallest kit to the oldest elder, I am here for them. Whenever any cat is in pain or shock, whether they're in my Clan or another Clan, or even not in a Clan; it doesn't matter because I'll heal them anyway.
My loyalty is with StarClan. I share dreams with them frequently and interpret their confusing prophecies and omens. It may not always make much sense, but I'll work it out in the end.
The path of a medicine cat is a confusing and mysterious path and no two medicine cats are the same. Take Mothwing as an example, she doesn't believe in StarClan."
"What, a medicine cat doesn't believe in StarClan?"
"That's right. But StarClan still watches over her. And Jayfeather, he's blind, except for in his dreams. Yes, I know, it's shocking. He can also read minds. Some say that may be a drawback, considering he may feel the pain of others. I say, that's an advantage. After all, if he understands their true pain, he will know which cat needs help the most.
Medicine cats aren't allowed to have a mate and fall in love. Some medicine cats have, and fewer have even had kits. I can see why medicine cats are not allowed to have a mate and kits. It distracts them from their duties. Plus, they may prioritise their kits, even if others need help first. I think medicine cats treat the whole Clan as their kits. After all, they look after them and protect and heal the Clan.
To me, being a medicine cat is the most rewarding job anyone could have. This is because you can see cats heal and let them live their lives well. Without a medicine cat, how will warriors heal from the battles they have? It's also so rewarding to see the kits when they are newly born. And the fact that it makes so many cats happy to see the kits... I love being a medicine cat.
I can't say that being a medicine cat is all sunshine and fresh-prey. Because sometimes, it's quite the opposite. When you try your absolute best to save a cat and yet... they join StarClan, it's just so hard. And when you see the Clan grieving and there's nothing you can do, it's difficult to not grieve with them. Yet, we have to have a positive attitude for the sake of the Clan.
Medicine cats have to know lots of herbs and flowers and their uses. Without this knowledge, medicine cats are not really medicine cats at all. But don't worry, you don't have to learn this all on your first day. Are you ready, Lilykit?" Breezeleaf asked.
The question caught Lilykit off-guard. Was she really ready to become a medicine cat? All of what Breezeleaf said seemed overwhelming and yet, as she said, it seemed so rewarding. Lilykit had never felt like she could serve her Clan as a warrior, not that there was anything wrong with her, but she was just weak. Plus, she already knew basic treatments and was a quick-learner. The path of a medicine cat is a confusing and mysterious path... Breezeleaf's words rang in her head over and over.
But she knew the answer and she had known for a while.
She was ready to follow the confusing path.
She was ready to become a medicine cat.
"Yes, I am." At that moment, she had thrown love away.
At that moment, she had thrown motherhood away.
At that moment, she would never be the same.
But she knew this.
She also knew that her path would be forever with StarClan and her Clan.
She also knew that for her, the path of a medicine cat would be more rewarding then a warrior's, queen's or leader's path.
I'm a medicine cat!
How was that? It's my first serious fanfic ever so I hope you enjoyed it. Thanks for reading, please review!
