Song: The Queen and the Solider by Suzanne Vega
###
He took a deep breath and knocked. The door opened and her beautiful face looked back at him. He gathered up his courage.
"Your majesty, I am Ferb Fletcher, here by resigning from duty as a solider in your army."
Queen Vanessa looked at him, vaguely recognising him from years past, and she let him in.
###
Once inside, the green haired man looked her in the face and told her why he quit. "I've looked upon your palace many times and have thought about who are you and why you send us to battle. But I'm leaving tomorrow, whatever you say, but first I'm asking you why send us?"
###
She led him down the hallway and into her room with red tapestries on the wall. She fixed her crown quick on her head and motioned for him to sit. Again Ferb tried to get her to answer him.
"Your majesty, I see you are young but I've trudged back defeated more than I have marched in victory parades, and something tells me this is all for you fun. Is it, your majesty?" a hint of bitterness tainted her title.
###
Vanessa looked down upon the young man. "You... you won't understand and there's no point in you trying to." Ferb could see the tears welling up in her eyes, but she composed herself and blinked them away. "I...I've swallowed a burning thread, it... it cuts me inside, I... I bleed often because of it. I have no idea why I just told you that."
He placed his hands on her head and made her sit .
###
"Tell how much you hunger for more than this, your majesty?! How weak do you feel, your majesty?!" Ferb raised his voice out of this woman's lack of love for anything or anyone. "You live here, all alone, and you never go out. But I won't march for you on the fields of murder ever again."
He led the queen to the window. The golden sun shone through the bleak, grey clouds, the queen, however, could not appreciate the beauty of the sight, and for this, Vanessa was ashamed. Ashamed she was hungry, ashamed this man could see right through her, Ashamed she contemplated loving him. She turned away when she thought of Him. He, the reason she could never look into the soldier's deep blue eyes again.
###
Ferb noticed her turn away, he could have slapped her, but instead, he decided to give her an honest piece of his mind. "I want to live my life, I want to lead it with a clear conscience. I want to receive what I deserve, no more, and give to those in need. I want to marry a woman, a woman.. that I don't understand but love very much anyway. Your highness, your ways are... peculiar, so to speak." Vanessa's crown was slipping and inside she was crumbling in to oblivion. She was ashamed of the aching in her heart for someone, but she followed her head, not her heart and took the solider to the doorstep and said she would just be a second.
###
Vanessa didn't want to do this but this way was less painful. She dialled the number.
"Your..."
"Code 6. He's in place, so just do it." She snapped. Her breath was ragged.
"A..are y..you.."
"YES, YES I AM! NOW JUST DO THE DAMN THING!" She had to just get it over with.
"Y..yes Ma'am." The man stuttered. She hung up and waited.
Code 6, invented because of one man. This man said that no one but he would have her heart. He was set up to use her and her power. He never loved her. He could never love anyone but himself, and she knew he was watching. She could feel his eyes boring into her back, examining his next victim.
"Well done, Johnny. I hope you're happy."
