The World Around Her

Luna Lovegood didn't always have friends when she first came to Hogwarts, and she wasn't always treated nicely by people before she met Harry.

When she first arrived into Hogwarts; she was excited to make new friends and show them to the Nargles, but when she first got sorted into Ravenclaw, she wasn't expecting all the stares shooting out at her like an automatic rifle. At first she must have thought that they all stared at her because of her father's popularity, but when she took the tiniest step forward, everyone in the Ravenclaw room a gigantic step back; Luna was indeed popular, but just because of her eccentric behavior and the rumors around Hogwarts about her. Luna of course stayed positive in her current situation, and thought that if she just says "Hi" and introduce herself in a normal way, then people would think the opposite of her and try to befriend her. So Luna stepped forward with courage and sensitivity—about what they were going to say about her—at the same time.

"Hello, I'm Luna Lovegood" she began "Nice to meet you all." Luna raised her hand up for people to shake. After that people started feeling bad for treating her as if she was an alien, and thought maybe Lovegood isn't so crazy after all. So most of them shook her hand welcoming her to Ravenclaw, one of the boys—a plump ginger boy—took charge and gave Luna a warm welcome.

"Hello Luna, and sorry 'bout that." The ginger boy apologized "Somebody spread a rumor 'bout you believing in fairy tales, and that you were crazy. Mostly everyone believed him." The ginger boy scratched his head like it was a habit he made. "I was one of the people who believed that you were crazy, sorry Luna."

Luna smiled and forgave him for what he did, she didn't like rumors, but she did like brave and truthful people. After everyone apologized to her, they went up to their dormitories to sleep—for it had grown quite late— after everyone left; Luna secretly went up to the plump boy and said, "Don't worry, I know who spread those rumors; it was the Nargles." Luna whispered softly. The plump boy drew back from her, did a fake smile and ran to his dormitory. "Maybe this year won't be so bad after all." Luna ended; she smiled to herself and cursed the Nargles, then went to go to sleep.
