"I was so scared…" you whispered. "I thought you were… I thought."

He pulled you into him, pressing your head against his chest. There, you could hear his strong, steady heartbeat. Whenever you spoke of your fear of losing him, he did this to you.

"I'm right here. Can't you hear it?"

"I hear it…" she whispered.

You shut your eyes and just focused on the sound of his heart beating. It was so slow and calm. How he always managed to stay so calm was beyond you. The rhythm of his heart was so perfectly steady, each beat coming perfectly timed from the last. It wasn't too hard, had you just placed your hand to his chest, the vibrations may have been lost beneath the layers of muscle, yet it sounded strong, like it was beating with a purpose. Each th-thump reached your ears with such clarity.

Levi never knew his parents; he always claimed they must've been terrible people to just leave him. He always said his mother and father probably didn't love each other enough and that's why he turned out so screwed up. But they couldn't have been so terrible. In your eyes, they were beautiful. Beautiful for creating this life you depended on so much. There's no way such a beautiful heart could've been created out of two people who didn't love each other.

Secretly, you knew why he was so beautiful. You believed in God, you believed he created all people, even if biologically it was the man and woman to put the pieces together. You knew that Levi was a gift straight from God himself. That being said, not everyone can always appreciate a gift they receive. Levi was a unique kind of gift, certainly not for everyone, but definitely for you. Whenever you heard that beautiful heart beating within him, you just knew God was up there. You just knew Levi was sent straight from heaven. Anyone else would call you insane for likening Levi to an angel, but to you, he was.

Levi himself thought you were out of your mind to say he came from this guy in the sky. Levi didn't believe in any of that church nonsense. And you couldn't quite blame him. He had experienced almost nothing but pain and suffering his whole life. He, however, respected that you did believe it. And it always warmed his heart to think that you loved him so much that you could believe he came as a gift from this "creator" you thought so fondly of.

"I love you." You whispered

He tightened his arm around your body, placing a kiss on the top of your head. He rarely would say the words "I love you", but you knew just as well. It was obvious to everyone who knew him how in love he was with you.

He wasn't that husband who went to work and just talked all day about how wonderful his wife is or how beautiful his wife is. But the way he would just glance at your picture on his desk, or just barely crack a smile at the notes you left hidden in his items for work proved how he felt. He was constantly thinking about you, even if he didn't make it obvious.

You were the flirt, he couldn't do it if he tried.

Surprisingly, he was the affectionate one. If he could, he would just lay next to you for hours and hold you.

He loved the way you felt in his arms.

And he loved that he could protect you.

But most importantly, he loved you.

"I'll always be here." He said softly. "Never be afraid of that. I will always be here."
