Garnet stood in front of the floor length window taking in the weather outside. It stopped raining a few minutes ago and the clouds were still covering the sky like a blanket giving the forest a muted green look. The trees were covered in tiny drops of waters and would combine with other drops and get bigger as it rolled down the leaf and onto the ground replenishing the grass and flowers.
I'll miss this, she thought and tried to take in more of the scene but her vision blurred. She brought her lowered hand up and dragged it across her face.
Well, what are you waiting for?
Then the phone started to ringed.
She contemplated on letting it go to voicemail but that might bring someone over quicker than she planned.
"Hello?" she answered, surprised at how steady she sounded.
"Garnet! Oh, I'm so relieved to hear your voice." Garnet closed her eyes and took several breaths. It was like someone strapped a life vest on her and she floated to the top of the water. But then she remembered what he said or more importantly how he said it.
"What do you mean?"
"Well, I,..." he was quiet for a moment. "I need help with stuff-camp stuff!" He said quickly his voice a little off.
"Steven are you ok?"
"W-who me? Yeah I'm fine I'm actually having really fun but enough about me, are...are you ok, Garnet?"
Fuck no, was an immediate response but she didn't like it when people swore around Steven and she didn't want to alarm him or worry him. Besides he didn't really care, Rose taught him manners. "I'm always fine, Steven." she lied and it seemed like the metal against her temple grew colder. He was quiet again and she was worried something was wrong. "You sure you're ok?" she asked again and heard him sigh.
"Yeah, everything was going great but...I started to get a sinking feeling in my stomach and I didn't know who to call...so...I called you."
"Oh," she said a little surprised. Does he...do he know? She shook her head at the nonsense. "Do you still need help with 'camp stuff'?"
"Not at the moment, no. But, please stay close to the phone. In case I need you, alright?" He said. "Is it still ok if you get a call from me in the middle of the night?" his voice softer this time.
"Of course," she said without a second thought.
"Ok, that's good to hear because I was starting to worry….."
"About what, Steven?"
"About….about nothing really. I guess I'm a little car sick."
"Take it easy, kid. Go lay down somewhere if they let you and make sure you let your counselor know how you feel. And use the puppy eyes I taught you if they are a little harder to convince."
"Thanks, talk to you later, right?"
"Don't worry," she said finding a new determination. "I'm not going anywhere."
Steven hung up and the sun broke through the cracks in the sky and Garnet removed her finger from the trigger.
