Remus Lives!AU
Written for the Back From The Dead Challenge
Remus Lupin held his tired son in his arms as he looked up at the sky.
"Ten minutes," Charlie Weasley shouted.
Remus smiled slightly as memories of his and Sirius' first kiss came to mind. How when the countdown reached one, Sirius grabbed him and kissed him. "I've been waiting to do that all year," the pure-blood had informed him, and without giving Remus a minute to recover, lips were on his again. He smiled at the thought of his mate, his Sirius.
Teddy shifted in his arms, drawing him from his thoughts. He looked down at the small boy in his arms.
"Not long now," he said, making their way over to the seats and dropping into the one next to Hermione. He offered her a smile, and Teddy reached for the girl.
As she cuddled his son, he thought about, not for the first time, how Tonks would have been at that moment, holding Teddy. How she would have let her hair light up just like the firework show they were about to view.
He thought about how Sirius, if he was around right now, would dote on the boy as if Teddy was his own son. He could just picture Sirius throwing a laughing Teddy into the air, almost hear the laughter from both of them.
He could hear Tonks whispering to Teddy to look up at the sky at the fireworks as they were about to start, his hair changing to match hers, rather than the brown of Hermione's that he was currently sporting.
"Two minutes," Charlie shouted as the twins rushed to get the fireworks ready.
Hermione smiled, passing Teddy back to his father for the countdown. She placed a kiss on her friend's cheek. "Happy New Year, Remus," she said, handing some documents to him. His eyes fell on them.
"One minute."
Remus read the front.
"The Veil," he said, resting it on the chair next to him and using his free hand to open it.
"The Veil can be opened. All that's required is a few drops of blood from someone who share's blood with the one who fell through."
"Twenty seconds."
"Teddy."
It was written underneath and underlined a few times. Remus looked at the next page where there were very detailed notes.
How long has Hermione been working on this?
It would only need a couple of drops of Teddy's blood, which he could get next time Teddy tripped... which happened quite often.
His gaze moved down the first page.
"Or a bond would be enough. That's if you're bonded with him, Remus. If you marked Sirius and not Tonks as your mate, your blood would be better. Even both of your blood?"
As the couples around him kissed as Midnight hit, Remus clutched his son and Hermione's file to his chest tightly. Teddy was asleep against him, his arms wrapped around Remus' neck. Remus paid no mind the the fireworks lighting up the sky.
Sirius was his mate. He had marked Sirius and that was what could bring Sirius back.
The bottom of the notes told him not to get his hopes up in case it didn't work, but he couldn't help it. He hoped by the next New Year he would have Sirius back.
The thought of Sirius helping him raise Teddy brought a smile to his face.
He sought out Hermione, pulling her into a tight hug, careful not to squash his son in the process.
"Why?"
"Because I know that it would make both you and Harry so happy to have him back," she said with a smile. "Kingsley is allowing us the room tomorrow, I suggest you get reading."
Remus turned to the house to put his now sleeping son to bed. He curled up in an armchair and began reading.
