"I put Harry down, Lils!" James Potter yelled down the stairs, sliding down the banister.
"He won't be asleep anymore." she whispered, grabbing her wand and casting Muffliato on the stairs.
"For the record, I waited until he was in bed before yelling." he teased, poking her in the side where he knew she was ticklish. She shrieked and slapped him hard on the arm.
"Now who's waking Harry up?" he grinned, running his hand through his hair like he did when he was amused.
Scowling, she hissed "For the record, that was your fault."
He reached over and caressed her cheek. She resisted for a minute and then melted into him, messing up his hair even more by rubbing his scalp.
"I can never say mad at long. Damn you James Potter."
James smiled cockily "For the record, I love you."
Lily sighed and kissed him gently "For the record or not, I love you more."
"Not physically possible."
He picked her up, bridal-style, and he carried up the stairs to their bedroom. Changing quickly, they snuggled under the covers, desperate to get some sleep before Harry woke them up.
Unfortunately, merely ten minutes later, Harry woke and started to cry. James moaned and shoved Lily gently. "Go please love. I put him down, and that's kind of traumatising because he has your stunning eyes and I can't say no to them and...and..."
"It's ok, James. I'll go." Lily left a trail of butterfly kisses along his jaw and grabbed a blanket sighing, ready to go. However James grabbed her arm and pulled her back onto the bed. He stroked her hair and got up. "I'll go Lils."
Smiling at her husband, Lily craned her neck around the lamp as she heard Harry stop crying. She could just hear James talking to Harry in a low voice.
"-so give the Giant Squid a piece of toast for me, because Mummy said she would rather go out on a date with it than me. I'm sure I saw the wrong squid though, as he was nothing compared to this."
Lily could imagine his facial expression: one hand holding Harry, the other pointing at his face, which would be covered in an arrogant yet endearing smile. She giggled and padded across the hall to where James was still talking to the baby. "In sixth year, she slapped me and then I kissed her and then she kissed me back. Good tactic that is, Harry. Kill 'em with kindness."
She couldn't keep it in anymore and burst out laughing, tears of mirth pouring down her face. James looked confused for a moment, then burst out laughing too, laying Harry down in the crib gently and they laughed helplessly holding each other. After laughing for a while, Lily walked over to Harry to try to calm him down, hiccupping.
Little did they know, he had fallen asleep at the sound of his parents' laughter.
