The alarm clock went off and Mac slowly opened her eyes. She saw that it was six thirty. She rolled out of bed and went through the door. She opened the door two doors down and smiled as she looked at the sleeping child in the bed. She entered the room and shook the waking child.

" Mommy" the little girl groaned. "Is daddy up yet?"

Mac smiled, "I don't know honey. Mommy just woke up and thought that you would want to go downstairs with her."

The little girl grinned as she quickly jumped out of bed and into her mother's arms. Her mother giggled at the childlike innocence that she saw in her daughter's eyes.

As Mac turned on the coffee machine, her daughter crept into her father's room. Clayton Webb lay on his hospital bed, having been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. His eyes lighted up as the little girl jumped unto his bed.

"Hey kiddo. What are you doing up so early?" he asked.

A smile came across the girl's face. "We're going to the park today remember?"

"Oh yeah, that's right. You're on summer break and we are spending the day together"

Just then, Mac stuck her head through the door. "Emma, honey, your breakfast is on the table."

The little girl kissed her father and ran off to eat her breakfast. Mac entered and kissed her husband. There was a hint of sadness and worry in her eyes.

"How are you feeling today honey?" she inquired as she stroked his head.

Clayton groaned, "There's still a lot of discomfort. Having you and Emma in my life has given me the strength to live. I am looking forward to spending the day with Emma. Regardless of how I feel, I can't disappoint her."

"Well it was nice of your mother to volunteer to take care of you for the day" Mac commented. "I'll bring your breakfast in and then get ready for work."

She kissed her husband, brought his breakfast in and disappeared up the stairs.

As Mac put on her uniform and fixed her medals, she stared at herself in the mirror. She had so many questions and few answers. Where had the time gone? What was she and Emma going to do if Webb died. Added to that, she often thought of Harm. The decision was made that he would've given up his commission and they would have moved to California, where they would get married and spend the rest of their lives. But four months later, she broke off the engagement when he was offered a commission in Brussels, and, with nothing keeping him Stateside, he jumped at the opportunity. She had married Webb with the hope that he would be able to fill the void that Harm had left. There was no doubt that she loves Webb, but he was never able to fill that special place in her heart that was always reserved for Harm. Webb knew it too, but he loved her anyway. And the fact that she was married to Webb did not stop her from thinking about Harm constantly; like every day. Her chain of thought was broken when her daughter entered the room.

"Mommy, can I have some candy?" her face looking almost angelic. "Daddy said that I could but that I should ask you."

She smiled at the child, "Have you brushed your teeth yet?"

The little girl gave her mother the deer-caught-in-the-headlight look.

"That's what I thought. Besides I don't think that your father would be able to handle you and a sugar rush at eight in the morning." Mac stated with firmness.

"A what!" the little girl asked, a hint of confusion in her voice.

Mac saw the opportunity to avoid answering the question and she seized it. She quickly put her watch on, picked up her bags, and kissed her daughter, who was sitting on her bed. She kissed her husband and went though the door, headed for another day at JAG.
