Summary: 'A mosaic, a dance of broken, gleaming fragments…'. PostDoomsday Doctors POV Oneshot
AN: this came from my HSC English paper. We were given the quote and we had to write a short story out of it. Of course being an English paper it was more general and less scifi, but this is close to what I came up with. Its still in the 'work in progress' stage but I felt like posting something regardless. hope you enjoy. R&R please for it makes the world go round.
'A mosaic, a dance of broken, gleaming fragments…'
That's how his life was. And what and eventful and long life it had been. A reflection caught his eye and all he could do was stare as flashes of memory clouded his vision.
He thought he had heard someone else in the building but he wasn't sure. This place was meant to be deserted it was after hours. But if there was someone down here he had to find them before they got themselves into real trouble. Rounding the corner he spotted who he was looking for. She was young, blond haired, and looking terrified as the dummies advanced on her, hands raised, preparing to strike. He took her hand, gave her a smile, "run" and they were off.
No. he didn't want to think on that. Not now. It was too painful. But along with that though came another memory.
He had promised to show her something special and they may have well been at the end of the universe from the look of awe on her face as they watched the sun go supernova. Yes he liked that sight, and could defiantly handle seeing more of it.
One adventure after the other, they travelled through the whole of space and time. He had promised to show her everything. No he thought, you promised to keep her safe.
Looking at the figures in front of him he knew there was no way they would survive this time. There was only one thing left to do. "Rose Tyler, you're a genius!" he encouraged running back through the doors and to the consol, hoping she would follow. Getting her to hold down a useless lever he ran back outside an locked the doors behind him. Ignoring her pleas he aimed the sonic screwdriver and sent her home. She was safe that's all that mattered.
But she was too smart for him. She found a way back. It almost killed her, but she just wanted to keep him safe. So inturn he saved her, he would gladly die for her, any day. And once again they were off, to explore the farthest reaches.
They stood watching the sunset on a rocky alien planet. "How long are you gonna stay with me?"… "forever"
Together forever, or at least that's what they had thought.
He watched as she was torn away from him. There was nothing he could do, nothing but look at her terrified face, and scream her name as she was sucked toward the void. At the last minuet her father was there. He caught her, taking her to safety. Then the void closed, the link between the worlds was no more.
He had stayed there for a while. He couldn't believe that after all they had seen, all they had been through, it had all come to this.
They stood on a beach. Trying to make small talk. He was burning up a sun just to say goodbye. "Will I ever see you again?" … "You cant"
And with that his hopes, his dreams, his life, his memories were shattered and reduced to
'… A mosaic, a dance of broken, gleaming fragments.'
