Warner and Vivienne were out for dinner, eating their meals in silence. Warner was the first one to break that peace and quiet since the couple had ordered their food.
"I can't believe what Elle did to Callahan; does she have any respect for her professors? I mean, she can't just go around kissing every one she sees just to get a leg up. Who does she think she is?" He took his fork and stabbed angrily at his food.
Vivienne threw her own cutlery down on her plate in frustration, wiped her mouth with a napkin and cleared her throat. "Warner, can you not talk about other women when you're on a date with your fiancée?"
Warner grabbed Vivienne's hand. "I'm sorry, baby. It's just...she didn't deserve the internship. Seeing what happened today between her and Callahan made me wonder what she did to make him put her on the team in the first place and how long this has been going on."
Vivienne retreated her hand. "Callahan kissed her! Elle slapped him and got fired!" She leaned forward, looking directly into Warner's eyes. "Do you really think that she would have reacted that way if she initiated the kiss?"
"Well, I don't know! Elle is desperate to have someone love her again; she would probably take anything she could get. But maybe she was just trying to throw off anyone that saw the kiss?" Warner wondered aloud with a shrug, taking an abnormally large bite of his chicken that was unpleasant to watch him chew.
Vivienne stood up, garnering a few stares from other people in the restaurant. She didn't care, though. She was pretty sure that they would all side with her if they could hear what she had to say.
"We're studying law, Warner! We're trained to look at evidence like this! Callahan was the one that kissed Elle, not the other way around. You're being an arrogant asshole and it's obvious you still have some sort of beef with Elle!" She screamed at him, feeling all eyes in the room were on her.
Warner gulped, noticing the looks he got from other people; he had sauce from the chicken all over his face too, which didn't help his situation. "I...uh...I love you, Vivienne."
Vivienne crossed her arms over her chest. "You know, I'm starting to think you're the one that didn't deserve the internship."
Warner wiped his mouth with a napkin and stood up as well. "What are you talking about? I'm Callahan's best student."
"With terrible morals." Vivienne shot back. "And you might be a good student, but you're certainly not a good fiancé."
"So you think that I didn't deserve the internship just because you and I are having a little disagreement and you think I have bad morals?" He shook his head, not believing what he was hearing.
Vivienne laughed at Warner looking like a toddler who had just had his toy taken. "Lawyers should have good morals, a lot don't, but if you want to be a good one, you should smarten up!"
Warner stammered as Vivienne slipped off her engagement ring and dropped it in his glass of champagne. She looked around the room at the shocked faces of everyone in the room, then to Warner's, whose face was the most bemused of all.
"You know who also need good morals?" Vivienne asked, not actually expecting and answer. "Husbands!" She stormed out of the restaurant, leaving Warner speechless.
Vivienne needed someone serious. Maybe not even romantically, maybe just a friendship. Maybe Elle.
