She looked at her tiny baby
Asleep in her arms so sweet
She kissed Him so gently
And she felt her life complete.
She had a little stepchild too
She raised since 3 days old
"Momma," the 2 year old said
"Can I the baby hold"
She gently placed the baby
In the arms of her little girl
"Support His head and be gentle dear"
As she stroked her curls
She knew there would be ups and downs
In that there was no doubt
But she also knew to trust The Father
He would always work it out
Once a mother always a mother
There's no doubt this is so
Mothers need to know when to hold on
And they need to know when to let go
Three years seemed to quickly pass
Her baby was now a child
He was always gentle and sweet
And ever so mild
Her boy was like His sister
In the gentleness He showed
When another child blessed their family
He loved to hold her and He cooed
One day the little girl
Who was only a babe
Looked up and smiled
And said her Brother's name
She beamed with pride in her little one
For saying her first words
For everything her children did
Was worthy of being heard
Once a mother always a mother
There's no doubt this is so
Mothers need to know when to hold on
And they need to know when to let go
Now more years have come and gone
Change is happening all too soon
Sometimes she puts it from her mind
Sometimes it seems untrue
The child that was ones a little boy
And a baby too
Has grown up to be a man
For now He's twenty-two.
Still when He comes home at night
A hot meal is waiting for Him
And she lets Him know she loves Him
And He can talk to her about anything
She doesn't push it however
For she knows what mom's need to understand
They push their bird out of the nest
But will always be there with a streched out hand
Once a mother always a mother
There's no doubt this is so
Mother's need to know when to hold on
And they need to know when to let go
Three years down the line
The young man was going with His friends
She knew that He had to go
But sad to see things coming to an end
"Mom I'll be back," He told her
As He gave her a hug goodbye
She hugged Him back and wiped some tears
And she knew she couldn't cry
It meant changes were coming
It was the beginning of the end
But the end brings a new beginning
She trusts the Father to mend
She saw Him leaving
He waved goodbye to her
Love made her hold back
And not her tears incur
Once a mother Always a mother
There's no doubt this is so
A mother needs to learn when to hold on
And learn when to let go
Now the boy is thirty
A party was on the rise
They ran out of needs for the party
At her request He doth provide
He went His own way
She saw Him freequently
One day as He was visiting her
And she whispered, "You mean so much to me"
He told her that He loved her
And that He always would
She gave Him a big hug
That moment was so good
She knew it would be a time
That was coming soon
She thought of that day
With every passing moon
Once a mother Always a mother
There is no doubt this is so
A mother must learn when to hold on
And learn when to let go
Three days after the moment of sadness
She could not let go of the heaviness in her heart
But seeing her baby again
Her joy doth once again start
Once a mother always a mother
There is no doubt this is so
Mothers must learn when to hold on
And learn when to let go
