I want to be very clear; this is an updated and reposted chapter. I will be working on all 19 original chapters as well as adding new ones where I feel they are needed.

I want to give a big shout out to lolabunny1992 for helping me with editing the chapter as well as providing me some suggestions.

Finally, I do not own or profit off of anything you recognize for the fantastic world of Harry Potter. That honor belongs to J.K. Rowling and her incredible brilliance. This is done for fun, and I hope you enjoy it as well.

Melody Delphinium was trying to get to the train for her final year of schooling at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She pushed her trolley through London's King Cross Station trying to figure out where platform 9 3/4 was supposed to be. She refused to ask a muggle for directions to locate it because...well they would think she was insane. After a few moments of further effort, she decided to stand in the shadows and decided to check on her traveling companion, her cat Kali who was curled up on her trunk sound asleep. As she leaned down to check on the feline, her hair tie snapped sending her hair cascading down around her in like a black curtain, blocking the train from view. Once she was sure Kali was fine, she returned to her search for the correct platform. Her deep green eyes were watching for anything that would be odd to most in the train station.

She wasn't waiting long before she heard the piercing cry of an owl. Looking in the direction the sound originated from; she spied the owl among a cluster of redheads that came rushing up. With them was a boy about four years her junior with wild brown hair and perfectly round glasses. She recognized him almost immediately, Harry Potter. So it was true, he was in Hogwarts.

Great! Not only was she forced to finish her final year of school in a new place, but she would also have to deal with the famous little punk that kept looking for trouble, at least according to the newspapers. Add to that her...condition, and she wasn't looking forward to this in the least.

Melody watched as the group looked around trying to make sure the coast was clear before they started charging the brick wall. So that's why she couldn't find it! After everyone in the group made it through, Melody pushed her trolley around to stand between the platforms. She then broke into a run and shoved her luggage through, wincing as she morphed into the wall and shivered once she passed the barrier. She then took another look around, observing the new environment she had entered while sticking to the shadows. She watched as many parents kissed their children farewell for the school year and felt a stab of jealousy. Her parents were seeing her little brother off, not that they would have shown up here anyway. She hadn't seen or heard from them since the attack, and it wasn't from a lack of trying on her part.

She caught bits of conversation from all around her until people started to realize she was there. A heavy silence hung in the air as Melody searched the faces of those around her nervously. Some seemed confused or curious. Others, like a particular pair of platinum blondes, just sneered at her. Melody didn't blame them. It wasn't every day that someone got kicked out of Beauxbatons without hearing the reason. Having a headmaster from another school vouch for you and insist you attend their school to finish out your education was unheard of. She could only imagine the rumors flying around about her at this point.

Trying her best to ignore the stares and sudden silence around her, she pushed her luggage over to the train and pulled it inside behind her. Moving to the back of the train, she found an empty car and drug her trunk inside. She slammed the door shut, and with practiced motions, locked the door with a quick sealing spell. As soon as the door had closed, conversation erupted outside along the platform again. She heard little snippets of the things being said around her.

" Did you see the way she's dressed?! " asked a girl. " I know! She's covered from head to toe! Maybe it's much warmer where she comes from? " commented another. " I heard it's because she had the plague and is covered in marks now! " shouted a boy. A few parents told their child to stay away from her at all costs while another grumbled that Dumbledore was insane for allowing her to be there.

At the sudden rush of sound, her grey tabby cat Kali woke with a start. The tiny cat let out a hiss of displeasure at having her nap interrupted. Her silvery eyes pinned Melody with a glare that said she was being held responsible for the disruption.

Fantastic! What a brilliant way to start off the new year, even my pet is pissed at me Melody thought as she tried to sooth her feline with a scratch behind the ear.

Kali pulled away from Melody's extended hand before jumping onto the back of the padded bench lining the car and moved as far from her owner as she could. She curled up with her back to Melody and swiftly fell back asleep.

Not a soul tried to touch the car that she had claimed as everyone climbed aboard after the final whistle blew in warning. That was fine with her; she didn't want to be stuck with a bunch of thick-headed louts all huddled together like a herd of scared rabbits. She stretched out along the bench as the train began to move, and quickly fell asleep.

She was awakened by the door of her car rattling. Someone was outside muttered alhomora and pulled again and again in a vain hope of getting in. It went on for a moment longer then Melody could allow. If they wanted to come in that badly, fine. She slipped her wand out of her sleeve, and with a small flick of her wrist canceled her spell. She quickly tucked her wand away again while laying her head back down and pretending to sleep.

" See, I told you it would work. Crabb, keep watch out here, I don't want anyone just walking in. My father wants me to get some answers about her, and I plan on getting them! " someone whispered. Lovely she thought, this day keeps getting better and better!

A nervous voice spoke up then, " I don't think that's a good idea Draco. She's older than us. She's gotta know more magic than we do. " he muttered. At least one of them seemed to have a brain cell that still worked.

" Oh shut it Goyle, she's passed out! We can cast a few spells and get this over with before she wakes up. " the first, presumably Draco mumbled.

Kali sat up suddenly, the fur on her back bristled as she let out a warning growl that chilled Melody to the bone. In all the years she'd owned the cat, she had never heard Kali make such a horrible sound. Melody's eyes shot open, and she looked around, the two boys were scooting closer together, their breath visible as they shivered from the sudden cold. The windows were icing over rapidly, and there was faint movement out in the darkness. She ripped her wand from the inside of her sleeve, tearing her long glove to pieces in the process, while quickly getting to her feet and trying to shield the boys as much as she could. She'd learned about dementors and knew they could all be in loads of trouble. The lights went out, and she heard a few screams rip through the darkness. She breathed slowly, straining her ears for even the slightest sound. Unexpectedly, Kali let out another growl, causing Melody to jump.

Melody tried to remember all the good times she had with her family, camping during summer breaks, Christmas Eve curled up in front of the fire drinking hot chocolate with her little brother, and going out with her parents to see R rated movies while her brother whined about being left with a sitter. No matter how hard she tried, the horrors over the last summer kept creeping into her mind. That gruesome night replayed through her mind without warning, all the blood, the screams, the pain, and fear. Then her mother standing in that hospital the morning after she had been found, begging for a different diagnosis. And finally, her parents kicking her out of the house in hopes of keeping her brother safe. Everything went black.

The first thing she noticed when she came to was a set of beautifully dark eyes. She realized an older man was kneeling down towards her, attempting to help her up. She flinched away from him, some new, very base part of her was terrified of the man.

Melody couldn't let him touch her; she was sure he would find out her horrible secret and expose her to everyone. "It's alright; the Dementors are gone." He said gently, trying to be reassuring. " Here eat this, it will help, " he continued in a soft tone. She could see the boys standing behind him snickering at her.

"I can't eat chocolate; I'll be fine in a few minutes." Melody tried to stand, and her knees gave way before she was upright.

Not believing her claims, Lupin tried to force the chocolate into her hand, as she tried to pushed him away, her bare skin coming into contact with his and her heart sank. He was either going to figure it out what she was or think she was dangerously ill. When she saw the flare of recognition in his eyes, she knew her fears had come true.

Without turning, he ordered the boys to leave the area immediately. Draco tried to interject, "But sir, we were just-"

In a deathly calm voice, he replied, "I do mean now, or I shall talk with the head of your house when we arrive at Hogwarts." Draco cast the man an evil scowl, which went unseen by the man before he and his two companions left the area. The door closed behind them, and the man locked it with a spell without taking his eyes off her.

He observed the girl as her frantic gaze darted around the train car in an attempt to find an exit. He would have to tread carefully if he wanted to keep magic or injury out of this situation. He lifted his hands out in front of him trying to show he was no threat, "I'm not here to hurt you."

At the sound of the man's voice, Melody's attention snapped back to him. His light brown hair seemed flecked with grey, even though he didn't seem old. He had a small, lopsided smile on his face and it caused the corners of his dark eyes to crinkle, showing off a few laugh lines. He was a bit pale as if he was getting over an illness. He hadn't moved a muscle after raising his hands and almost looked as if he wasn't breathing. Melody realized he still had his wand in his hand, and her fingers twitched, wishing she was holding her own if she needed to defend herself.

The man seemed to notice what caught her attention, "I'll put the wand away if it would make you more comfortable." After she gave a quick nod, he slowly tucked his wand away in the folds of his shabby robes. He lifted his hands back up in an attempt to prove he was still no threat. He addressed her clearly, "My name is Remus Lupin. I was asked to come to Hogwarts by Albus Dumbledore to help with a student. Am I correct in assuming that you're the one he meant?" When she remained silent, he pushed on. "What is your name?"

Melody hesitated, unsure if she should trust the man before her. Almost every person in the wizarding world knew who Dumbledore was, and most people on the train knew she was only here because of him. It was clear he didn't intend on leaving until he got a few answers. When she spoke, her voice was almost inaudible. "Melody sir. Melody Delphinium."

"A pleasure to meet you, Miss. Delphinium." Remus extended a hand in hopes of her shaking it when she glared daggers at him; he withdrew it slowly. "And how long have you been a vampire?"
