Spoilers for volume 2, issue 13.

AN: Okay, so this is my first story. Some background info: In issue 13, Molly got knocked into the water and woke up in control of the Provost. She rallied the other kids and they broke his wand and beat him. In issue 14, Nico comes in the room and tells Molly to go to her room because she's grounded. Molly says, "But that's not fair, Nico! I told you, I didn't run away from our last battle!" So they thought she was lying, but she wasn't. For some reason, that made me really mad- you'd think considering their situation, they'd give her the benefit of the doubt. Anyway, that's where this came from, and I had to write it. Enjoy. Oh, and sorry for the crappy title.

Before I forget, Karolina's not there, 'cause she was in space with Xavin at this point. Victor IS there, but I couldn't think of anything for him to say.

Disclaimer: As sweet as it would be, I don't own Runaways.

The Truth

"But Nico, I'm telling the truth!"

11-year-old Molly Hayes, waving her arms frantically, was doing her best to stay calm. Nico Minoru, on the other hand, made no attempt to hide her frustration. They'd had this conversation many times over the last few days.

"Really, Molly. You seriously expect me to believe you were kidnapped by an old man with a laser whip and a magic wand who made you steal ten thousand dollars."

"Yes! 'Cause it really happened! And we stole his wand and broke it and he turned to stone and that's how we got away!"

Rolling her eyes, Nico turned to walk away. "Really."

"C'mon, is that really the most unbelievable thing you've ever heard? Our parents were super villains, who sacrificed people to giants with huge noses, and you can't believe I rallied some kids to stop some creepy guy with a wand?"

"No, Molly. What I can't believe is that you're still lying about this. You have some imagination, I'll give you that, but you're obviously lying."

"I'm not, Nico! I can even show you where it happened! I bet he's even still there!"

Nico sighed. "Fine, Molly. Tomorrow you can take us all and show us where you got kidnapped."

"Thanks, Nico!" Grinning, Molly ran off. Probably to figure out how to make us believe her story, Nico thought. Oh well, at least it should be entertaining.

The next day, the entire group- sans Old Lace- followed Molly as she led the way. She stopped, lifting a manhole cover, and began to lower herself down the ladder.

"Uh, no, Molly. We're not crawling around in the sewers," Nico said.

Molly stopped. "But Nico, you said I could show you! It happened down here, I swear!"

"Ah, come on, Nico," Chase said. "Maybe she is telling the truth."

"She better be," Gert muttered. "Or else it won't be some old man she has to worry about." And she followed them into the sewer.

Molly eagerly continued leading the group, not even flinching as her feet sloshed through the water. "We're almost there," she said. "Then you'll know I'm not lying."

A few more minutes and they came to a large open room. There were moneybags lying on the floor, and several bags' worth of coins scattered everywhere. And just ahead of them… a stone man, with a stone whip in his hand.

"No way," Chase whispered.

"…Wow, Mol. Guess you weren't lying." Nico stared disbelievingly.

"See? There's his wand! He turned to stone when we broke it!" Molly pointed to a broken stick on the ground. "And there's the money I beat him up with! And see how his arm looks like it was holding something? That was me!"

Molly grinned as her team stared around the space. "So I'm not grounded anymore, right?"
