No time

There's no time to escape,

My head throbbed from the heat,

My hands sweated, fistfuls of fury escaping from the very essence of me,

My heart stammered rhythmically to the sound of the roaring fire,

Its fierce fiery fury spread throughout the flame filled room like a deadly virus

My lungs were screaming for air,

My mind was clouded by the smoke, I couldn't think straight

My eyes blinked rapidly the clouds of soot making them cry with pain,

The flames grew steadily, gradually reaching the tips of the ceiling, stroking them, caressing them,

The fire's tangy orange centre hypnotized me,

It's red middle shone like devious eyes,

It hissed deviously, it whispered to me, taunted me,

It chuckled heartily boasting as it grew closer,

'Look what I can do' it shouted childishly,

I grunted in disgust as it rose noisily taking another step toward me, leaving footsteps of destruction behind,

I couldn't fight it,

The fire was stronger than me,

Although my heart was more powerful my body ached in a pathetic manor,

I couldn't control the fire, no one could,

They lied, they manipulated the fire for so long they succumbed into the impression that we were the 'all powerful ones',

But we weren't, we aren't, we never will be,

We should've respected it,

We shouldn't have trusted it,

But we did,

And now I'm alone,

There's no one here, no one coming,

You're never safe, not really,

The tremors of our mistakes are all around us,

With each advancement there's a loss, a chance of failure, a consequence,

I am living through a consequence,

The fire is consuming me now, its eating my flesh like a piranha,

Its swamping me slowly,

But I'm not in pain,

And I'm no longer alone,

My grandma is sat in her rocking chair,

She's knitting just like she always did,

Her eyes are shining bright,

She's humming soothingly,

She's singing me to sleep,

Just like she always did,

My life was written in the stars,

To die at eleven,

In a room filled of smoke and ash, mine and the fire's,

There's no time to escape,

No time to plead for help,

My time is done; the clock has counted down,

There's no time…

Tell me what you think
