A/N: Okay, so this is a quick one-shot of Alice's death during the Breaking Dawn time period. This was just a quick little idea that I had and I thought I'd just write it. Its not the best, and I hope that Alice doesn't die in the actual book, but I had the idea, and I ran with it.

And Then I Was Gone

Darkness lies in wait,
Luring me with the perfect bait,
Waits 'till the sun draws down tight,
To give me the fatal bite.

I took a deep, unnecessary breath and walked into the clearing. I knew that I could stop them, but not without a cost to me, and more importantly my family. They would be devastated; especially my love, but I knew more than anybody how this would affect the future. They would have each other, and that comforted me in this dire situation.

I stopped in the middle of the seemingly empty clearing. They were hiding in the trees, I could smell them. I smiled and closed my eyes, knowing that the pain was coming, but the result would be gratifying.

I saw him leap at me, and moved the second he would hit. He appeared on the other side of me, scowling. My eyes were still closed and I was grateful for my visions. It was too bad their most important use was for my doom.

Thus we started a dance; he lept at me and I twirled out of the way. His attacks became more frequent and I was reminded of the night in the clearing with my family and the werewolves. The memory gave me strength and I gained the advantage. Within seconds, my teeth grazed his neck, beheading him. Quickly, before I could be interrupted, I lit a fire and dismembered him. I threw his remains into the fire, and the air was filled with growls of fury and despair.

I turned towards my future and looked down to stare her in the eyes. "Jane," I said with a nod and, suddenly, I was on the ground in agony. I kept silent, knowing she would stop in seconds, not wanting to play with me; she was too angry at his death, and the others' deaths that my family was causing at the moment. Three deaths surely made up for one right?

"Why would you come? Surely you saw that you would die by my hand," Jane sneered and I smiled. She scowled and I was in pain again. I knew my family was coming, but they would be too late. The Volturi would be no more, and I would be nothing but ash.

"It was the only way," I coughed as I stood again. "You might as well get this over with before my family gets here. There's no reason for all of you to stick together, your leaders are dead. Aro was right to fear us; the Cullen family is much stronger than the Volturi." Jane's eyes narrowed, but she nodded briefly.

"Let us finish." I closed my eyes and waited for the end. There was no use in running, I was out numbered. There was no use in stalling, even Edward, who was racing ahead of everyone else, wouldn't get here in time.

Jasper, I love you, was my last thought before the pain hit me, and I fell into a pit of darkness. Then, there was a light, the pain went away. I smiled knowing death had taken me, but I was happy. I could see my family's future, and it was glorious. There was a period of depression, but they would make good out of my death. They would live forever, even if forever wouldn't last as long as you would think. And then I was gone. I was allowed one more thought before I left the human realm forever and that was, there is a God. Carlisle was right. He was always right.
