Severus felt like he was knocked over by a Bludger when he walked into Andromeda's house, and saw her performing "Diffindo" on a dress. That wasn't what surprised him. That was a common sight when he went to see his girlfriend. What truly took him by surprise was by the young infant that laid in a bassinet beside her.
"What's going on? Who's that?" He pointed at the baby, doing his best to stay away from the vile creature. Even as it opened its eyes, Severus dreaded what might come out of its mouth.
Andromeda looked at him with raised eyebrows. "Teddy, my grandson. The baby that lost both of his parents in the war, the one I now have guardianship over. That grandson."
"Potter is his godfather. I thought he was going to be guardian."
Andromeda crossed her arms and stood up, tapping her foot impatiently. "Harry and I discussed it and while he will play an active part in Teddy's life, and Teddy will probably spend nights over at Harry's house, once Harry has a house, Harry is still very young, and thanks to the war, he didn't have much time to just enjoy being a kid without responsibilities. I will hold guardianship so Harry only has to worry about himself for now."
"Don't you think you should have talked to me about this? You know how I feel about kids. I find them disgusting creatures that should be seen and not heard, and I will not deal with the werewolf's mutt because he couldn't stay alive."
Andromeda dangerously narrowed her eyes. "Teddy is my grandson, and I'm taking him in, so you better get over your dislike."
Severus crossed his arms and glared at her. "You have a choice. It's me or the brat."
Andromeda turned around, her back to Severus being her answer. Even so, she verbalized it as well. "I choose Teddy. I think you should leave."
Severus left in a huff, his robes swishing around him. When he got back to his dungeons, he was met by the sight of Dobby cleaning his table. He ignored the creature, fed up with what happened, unable to believe that Andromeda actually chose the brat.
Potter should have taken him; it was his responsibility as godfather. Why should Severus have to put up with Lupin's spawn because Potter was an immature brat?
"You're such a fool!" a squeaky voice declared.
Severus glared at Dobby, unable to believe the elf was actually talking to him like that. It must be because of how much time Dobby spent around Potter. That boy really was a bad influence. "Leave," Severus ordered.
Dobby glared, and once again, he repeated the statement. "You're such a fool!"
After Dobby left, Severus admitted, even if was only to himself, that Dobby was right. He was a fool. He lost the best thing in his life because he hated children and wasn't willing to deal with them outside of his job, even for Andromeda.
It was too late now. He had forever loss Andromeda, and there was no way to fix it.
