Disclaimer: I don't own Miss Saigon

It would have been different if Tam had been a boy. A little boy was supposed to be strong. A little boy was supposed to be obnoxious. That was how Ellen's brother was. As much as she loved her little brother and she did he was strong and obnoxious.
It would have been different if Tam had been a little older. She was under a year old. A little girl, a baby girl, needs her parents. She doesn't just need her mother. She doesn't just need her father. She needs both of her parents. Ellen loved Chris but she didn't need him.

Tam needed him. Kim needed him. Kim had been in 'hell' way too long. It was time for her to find her way back to the sunlight.

"Chris," she asked him, "do you really love me?"

He paused for a moment. He did love Ellen but not in the same way that he loved Kim. Kim was his one and only. Kim was the reason that he refused to give up. Ellen he loved as a friend. He would never and COULD never love her as anything more.

"All my life," he told her, "I was brought up to believe that right is right and wrong is wrong. With Kim-"

"Go," Ellen kissed him, "I love you and I know you love me but your wife and your daughter need you"

Then she left.
