Casey POV
As if it wasn't enough that mom remarried, she had to marry a man with three annoying children, especially the oldest, my dear new step-brother Derek. So here I was, cramped in a tinny room in our new house with my sister Lizzy, trying to find a way to make everything in the bedroom we were supposed to share for the next … Well at least until I go to college. I was trying to find another place for my desk than over my bed, when music came blasting out of Derek's room. As if I needed to hear some weird people shouting some incoherent words in such a moment of stress! This was the drop that made the bowl drip, I had to intervene.
Derek POV
Well, there it is: day 1 of our newly reconstructed family… Couldn't dad pick a woman without children of her own? Or at least with cute daughters? Don't get me wrong, Nora is an angel for my dad, and, if you tell anyone I said that, I'll deny it, but our family needed a feminine touch, for Marty. I was about to write an e-mail to Jay, one of my best friend who spent the entire summer in a hockey camp across Europe after winning a bursary. To do so, I put some music on, as I always do when I'm about to use the computer… That way my dad and siblings don't know what I'm doing and I'm not interrupted… Well until today… At the moment I was about to start typing my message, I hear someone bagging on my door, soon followed by a distinctive screech: "DER-EK!". Frustrated, I open the door, and surely, there stands Casey.
"Who are you?" I ask
"I am the stepsister you've always wanted"
"Really? Because you look like the ugly stepsister from Snow White"
"That Cinderella you freak… Now, could you turn down the music?"
Well, isn't that typical Casey, as soon as I start to enjoy myself, she has to come and ruin it… So I say the first thing that comes to my mind and tell her I never had problems with my music when Edwin was living in their current bedroom. To which comment Casey answers that they don't have a room, which makes me walk oiut of my room into hers to prove her wrong. And unfortunately, I must admit Casey was right: there is no way on earth that the two girls, their beds and their desks can fit in such a tiny room… Then again, the logistics of our new cohabitation is none of my concerns and I'm sure Nora and dad will find a way that everyone will be happy. I, for my part, am happy that we Venturis didn't have to move and that I get to keep my old bedroom. After one last comment to Casey, I go back to my room to start the mail for Jay, hopping that this interruption won't delay Jay's response, since we've been writing back and forth to one another every day since the beginning of the summer vacations.
