Don't own anything

Be nice

Sam McCall lay in her hospital bed, exhausted physically and emotionally. Only Maxie and Jason believed her about the text message killer still being out there. Jason wasn't much help of course. Lucky still believed it was a ploy to get him to forgive her. She couldn't believe she ever fell for him. She understood why he was angry and why he broke up with her. She deserved it but to come to her in the hospital and tell her that they will never have a future together? That was rather cruel. She already knew that: he didn't have to remind her. She sighed and tried to get comfortable on the small hospital bed, grabbing the blankets and pulling them tight around her as if she was trying to hide herself from the world, from herself, as she allowed steady tears to fall down her face.

Alexis told Sam that Jerry found her. She was surprised, thinking he would probably just leave her for dead. Maybe Jerry wasn't so bad after all. He made her mother happy, so that's all that should matter, right? Suddenly Sam was interrupted by an unfamiliar voice calling out to her.

"Playing hide and seek?" a man asked. Sam quickly wiped her tears away.

"You could say that," Sam answered peaking out of her cocoon to see the man that stood before her. He was a doctor, but one she never saw before. She wondered if he was new. "I haven't seen you around here before"

"Yeah, I'm new in town. I'm Doctor Ian Devlin." He put out his hand for Sam to shake, which she did.

"Sam McCall, but you probably already knew that by my chart."

"Yeah. I also see you have quite a medical record. A gunshot wound?" he asked rather amused.

"Let's not go into that." Sam rather not relive what started her on her downward spiral.

"I'm sorry," Ian apologized.

"It's fine. So how do you like good ol' Port Charles so far?"

"It's an…interesting town. Look I don't mean to pry, but are you okay?" Ian noticed that she had been crying recently. Actually that's why he came in. He didn't have to check her vitals just yet, but he heard whimpering coming from the room.

"Let's just say I have done some regretful things in my life and now most of the people here hate me and they won't believe anything I tell them," Sam said quickly trying to get everything off her chest.

"I'm sure what you did wasn't that bad."

"Believe me, what I did was terrible. I can't even forgive myself."

"Well regret is the first step to recovery. Besides, I have done some bad things in my life too, so I have no right to judge," Ian said. Sam smiled slightly.

"You are probably one of the only people that don't hate me right now, but if you knew what I did, that would probably change."

"I doubt it. I don't really know you, but you don't seem like a bad person. Just someone who has been deeply hurt…uhh I know this is kind of out of the blue and all but… would you like to go out to dinner sometime…that is if a beautiful woman like yourself isn't seeing anybody." Sam thought of Lucky and how he told her that he pretty much hated her. So that relationship was pretty much over. Getting involved with Lucky was a mistake anyways. He was too close to the situation. She also knew that it wasn't a good idea to get into a relationship this soon, however.

"No, I'm not seeing anybody, but how about just as friends?" Sam asked hopefully.

"Of course. Well I better get back to my rounds. See you around Sam."

"Bye Doctor Devlin."

"Please, call me Ian," he said. He gave her one last wink before he walked out.

Sam sighed and she snuggled deep into her blankets. A friend is what she needed right now. She was through with Jason, Liz, and Lucky. It was time to move on.

I know it was short but it was just something that came to me after seeing media pics of Dr. Devlin and Sam talking in her hospital room. Hope you enjoyed it.
