I had a lot of fun working on this. There were two directions to go in, but my friends voted on this one. Enjoy!
Song: I Wont Say I'm in Love - Hercules.
Pulling out the bottle of wine from the fridge, Scully makes to grab the glasses off the counter and walks to the living room. Melissa had came over after a two-minute phone call with her little sister, sensing that this discussion was meant to be face to face, not over the phone.
"Dana, you're tense." Her sister comments before she even has the chance to sit down. "Is it Mulder? What did he do this time?"
Scully lets out a short laugh, sitting down opposite from Melissa, her eyes glancing at the recently printed photo that was sitting on the coffee table, hoping her sister didn't take notice of it. But there was little hope of that happening. "He didn't do anything, he didn't have to do anything." She looks away, taking a gulp of her drink. "But, if there is a prize for rotten judgement, I guess I already won that." She sighs, thinking of her ex-boyfriends, Jack and Daniel. She had thought at the time that they were both right for her, but in the end they weren't. "Been there, done that."
She looks up to her sister, a cheshire grin spread across her face. "Who'd'ya think you're kidding, baby sister?" The older woman scoots forward from her spot on the couch, her hands coming to rest under her chin. "Honey, I can see right through you."
Scully already regrets this, it's a mistake, she tries to conceal from her. "No chance! No way!"
"Why deny it?" That grin has not left her, and it makes her nervous. What could her older sister be planning?
"It's too cliche, Melissa! I won't say I'm in love!" She finishes her glass in record timing, she could already feel lighter in her seat. Pouring herself another glass, she sighs. "Honestly, I thought my heart had learned its lesson. It always feels so good when you start out." And yet, here her head was screaming 'get a grip, girl!' at the thought of Mulder, her handsome and quirky partner.
Melissa eyes her sister and then shifts to her drink before taking a sip of her own. "You keep on denying who you are and how you're feeling." Scully looks over to her sister, giving her the look that says she wants her to stop talking, to stop pushing. "Face it like a grown up. You got it bad."Scully's jaw drops. No chance! No way! She refuses to say it.
"Give up, Dana, give in." She thinks about it. Give in? To Mulder? If she did that, would he say yes, would he take the chance to be with her even though they are partners? She doesn't know if it's the wine or the thought of being with Mulder, but she feels her face lift. "Check out the grin, you're in love." Melissa giggles, then takes a gulp of her wine.
"You're way off base, Melissa, I won't say it." The older woman giggles again, bouncing in her chair. "Get off my case." Scully says, trying to sound serious, but a giggle escapes her lips. Must be the wine. "I won't say it."
"Dana, don't be proud. It's okay, you're in love." Melissa pushes again, taking another swig, almost empting the glass.
"At least out loud, I won't say I'm in love." Scully sighs, gazing at the picture that sits on the coffee table of her and her partner from a case not too long ago, after her abduction.
