"All I'm saying," Tom said, "I'm just not sure what king of self respecting dictator would take over Lawndale of all the places in the entire world."
Daria paused from taking a bite from her slice of pizza, "He has a point. It's kind of insultingly easy to get them riled up."
"Melody Powers?" Jane asked.
"Melody Powers," Daria confirmed.
"Telling inside jokes isn't fair," Tom said, folding his arms. "I thought we went over this."
"Did you hear about the time when the Lawndale High football time tried so storm the Russian embassy a few years back?" Jane asking, arching her eyebrows and smirking at Daria, who was grabbing another slice of pizza from the pie.
Tom swirled the straw in his soda and shook his head. "I really can't say I'm surprised with you two involved."
"As it should be!" Jane said, "it means you're catching on. But back to the conversation at hand. I think you two are overlooking the insecure dictator who can't handle having a real challenge and needs constant pick-me-ups."
Jodie, who was just about to walk past them, slice of pizza and soda in her hand, halted. "Do I want to know what you guys are talking about?"
Jane leaned closer to her, "Oh, like I didn't see you watching us while waiting for that mushroom and onion pizza. You just can't resist this epic conversation." She scooted over and patted the seat next to her, "Sometimes you have to drop the good kid act, Landon, and allow the inner Daria to come out."
"Be warned," Daria said as Jodie, without hesitation, sat down next to Jane "when you let her out, she can be pretty hard to contain."
Tom gave her an interested look, which she returned with a smile that was, perhaps, a little softer than it usually was.
"I think I can handle it," Jodie said. "Anyway, I have to say I agree with Jane on this one. You guys may be overlooking some other factors. How else can you explain Ms. Li?"
"You have me converted just from the horror stories I've heard," Tom said and then picked up his slice of pizza and took a bite. Jane followed suit.
"I have to admit, that's a really good point, and one we should talk about more in depth." Daria scooted the pie in the middle of the table closer to where Jodie was sitting. "Have an extra slice."
"I see what you did there," Jane said as Jodie grabbed the last piece of pepperoni pizza. "You want to give her the last slice so Tom has to buy us another pie."
"I never said that I was being altruistic," Daria said, her lips curving into a small smile as she watched Tom get up to order another pizza.
