Matt was used to Mello working through the night, thinking a human could function with only an hour or two of sleep. Matt was also used to Mello making a lot of noise as he tried to stay awake. That's why it was such a surprise when he woke up at around two in the morning to a completely silent apartment.

Shivering slightly, he left the confines of his blankets to venture into the living room where he knew his blond friend would be. Matt poked his head into the room and scanned it quickly, his eyes finally resting on the sprawled out lump on the sofa.

Matt shuffled closer to the lump that was his boyfriend and peered down in curiosity and awe. Had Mello actually fallen asleep? The red head couldn't help but be shocked as the realization that Mello had in fact fallen asleep came to him. Allowing a giggle to pass through his lips Matt thought of what to do as he lifted the laptop off of Mello. The idea of covering him with a blanket was quickly cast aside as his eyes fell on the stack of quilts piled near the kitchen table. An idea came to mind and he down right grinned as he grabbed the pile.

______

Matt smiled at his creation in happiness before ducking under the blanket door and crawling towards the middle of the fort where the couch was. Careful not to knock over any chairs or blankets Matt reached the middle where the sofa that Mello was lying on was. He flopped on top of the blond and promptly fell asleep with a smile on his face.

_____

Awareness flooded into Mello's mind as he slowly became conscious. The fact that there was a unidentified weight on his chest did not go unnoticed as Mello cracked open his eyes to the sight of a sleeping redhead.

Mello couldn't help but wonder what the fuck had happened and why he was so warm. It finally occurred to him that there was a tent around him-- No, it was a blanket fort.

Sighing in confusion and pulling the gamer tighter to his chest Mello simply decided to go with it until Matt woke up before questioning his madness.

An hour passed before the redhead began to stir. "Morning," Matt murmured as he buried his face further into Mello's chest.
The blond rolled his eyes before murmuring, "If there was a clock in this fort of yours I would confirm my suspicion that it is most likely close to 4 o'clock in the afternoon." Matt shrugged and Mello pulled him tighter.

"Why did you build a fort?," Mello couldn't help but ask in slight confusion.

" 'Cause you looked tired and cold and covering you would have been boring." The blond rolled his eyes again and buried his face into Matt's head.

"We used to build these at Wammy's didn't we?" he asked, words muffled by Matt's hair.

Matt nodded happily, "Highlight of my childhood." Mello laughed and they lapsed into a calm silence, simply enjoying the presence of one another.

"Matt?" Mello inquired, breaking the silence.

"Hmm?" Matt hummed with his eyes closed

"I hope you know I'm going to kick your ass for distracting me from work for a whole day." Matt grinned in satisfaction, "Sure thing Mels."

And the silence once again fell bringing with it a happy and comfortable feeling. Ahhh… the magic of a fort.
