Disclamier: I do not own these characters. They are the property of J.K. Rowlling. Though I feel she did away with many of her best ones in Deathly Hallows, sadly that does not give me the right to steal them.

So without further ado,

The sorting of Albus Severus Potter:

Albus Severus looked up at the different house emblems displayed in the great hall of Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. He had less than an hour to decide which house he would be in. The sorting hat had given him the choice most children would have delighted to have: Gryffindor or Slytherin. His ten year old mind was weighed by the decision to make. He had no idea how he was ever going to decide.

A few hours ago, it would have been no decision at all to him. He would have chosen Gryffindor and never thought twice about it. His father had been in Gryffindor...so had his grandfather James and his father's godfather Sirius. These were two people young Albus Severus had never met. They had died before he his parents had even gotten married. But he was used to that by now. After all, he was even named after two men he had never met before.

Yet something his dad had told him before he had got in the train had changed his view on the Slytherins whom he had once thought down upon. "Albus Severus you were named for two headmasters of Hogwarts. One of them was a Slytherin and probably the bravest man I ever knew." This confused Albus for a great while. He had always thought bravery was something only Gryffindors possessed, in notable quantities anyway. How could the bravest man his father had ever known come from Slytherin?

Albus Severus decided, after a while of wondering, that he would look up his two namesakes in his book Hogwarts: A History. This would surely help him choose. He started with Albus Dumbledore, with whom he shared his first name. He had been a Gryffindor and Headmaster of Hogwarts for a great many years. His book said he was best known for defeat of the dark wizard Grinwald in 1945. Dumbledore ran Hogwarts until he died. The book said he had been murdered, but it didn't say who had done it. Albus Severus, at that moment, couldn't see how a man could be more brave that than someone who had defeated dark wizards and destroyed the Sorcerer's stone.

Yet young Albus would quickly learn that there was more to bravery than the conquest of dark wizards. Once he had read all about Albus Dumbledore he turned to the next man, whom had given him his middle name. His name was Severus Snape. Albus stared at his picture for a long moment. The first thing he could think of was he would have been terribly afraid of the man if he had seen him in person. His eyes seemed to mock everything around him, he didn't seem pleasant at all. Yet as Albus read about his life, he could see why. It didn't sound pleasant…or even the least bit happy at all. He was surprised to find the one happiness of the man had came from his own grandmother. It didn't take young Albus long, as he read through the pages about the former headmaster, to understand why he was considered a great man. He had died for love. That was true bravery, to be able to love something or someone so much that you would give up everything for them.

After he had finished reading, Albus put his book back into his bag. He looked up from where he was sitting, everyone had gone. It was time for him to decide. He walked slowly up the stairs to the Headmistress's office. The door crept open and the kind eyes of Minerva McGonagall followed him to the far side of her desk.

"Well, Mr. Potter" The Headmistress began "Have you decided?"

"Yes," Young Albus answered confidently. "I want to be in Slytherin. Just like the bravest man my father….and me have ever heard of."
