Chapter 1: On with the Search
A young white-haired girl stood alone on the pavement, staring up at the sky with not much interest. Rain was pouring down heavily and with nothing to cover her from getting drenched except for a thin hood, her soft silky hair quickly became wet. Normally, she would be delighted at the prospect of having rain but it had been like this for four days nonstop and it was starting to dampen her usually cheerful mood. I wonder what the gods are crying about now, she wondered, her pale violet eyes now gazing at the ominous-looking clouds. She never really believed in gods but sometimes, on occasions like these, she liked to refer to them, as if mocking their very existence.
"There you are! Where were you, anyway?" a familiar voice interrupting the girl's foul thoughts. The young girl, whose name was Kana didn't bother to look at the mysterious person. She could recognise the voice from a mile away and knew it belonged to her best friend, Jen, who had insisted on buying the groceries and requested for Kana to wait outside. Probably trying to convince the sceptical Snow-White that she's actually capable of remembering what to buy.
"Where was I? Where were you?!" Kana snapped, arms akimbo and violet eyes narrowing threateningly. "I've been waiting out here in the rain for a whole hour! An hour!" Kana shouted furiously, waving her arms in an exaggerated motion at the downpour while glaring menacingly at Jen.
Jen raised her eyebrow. Kana must had been in a really foul mood to get worked up over trivial thing such as water droplets. In fact, before today, Jen was pretty sure that Kana lived for the rain. She was usually cheery and chirpy but it was obvious that the city's bad weather had rubbed Kana off the wrong way. If Jen didn't calm Kana down now, then a nuclear explosion would occur very, very soon. "Calm down!" she told Kana. "Breathe in, breathe out. Come on, don't glare at me like that, breathe in… Breathe out…" As Kana inhaled and exhaled, Jen took out a gummy bear from a small, blue cylinder in her pocket and held it out to Kana. Her face lit up and snatched it away from Jen and her previous scowl slipped into a wide smile. Assured that Jen wouldn't be dying early, she explained the situation to Kana.
"OK, so I met this old lady in the supermarket and she recognised me as Ging's daughter. Took her half an hour to get to the point, though," At that, Jen frowned at the tiring memory before continuing, "Anyway, she said that if we go to this ware house at the top of Gold Hill at exactly 12:00 pm tomorrow, we'll find something related to the search." Kana nodded as they brisk-walked back to the hotel. She, Jen and her two other best friends, Kurara and Lyra, had once been in the same orphanage, Ralanday End and when they were younger, they had gotten wind of the fact that Jen had a twin brother and her father was not dead at all. In fact, they were both very much alive.
When Jen had first heard of it, she was determined to track both of them down. However, there were both good and bad news. The bad news was that the she didn't know her brother's name. The good news was that she knew her dad's name; he was famous after all. But even though she knew her father's name, he had 'disappeared' and it had made the search even harder. Obviously, that meant that Kana and Jen weren't going to lose out either. Jen would go to Hades (H-E-L-L) before admitting defeat. She was Jen Freacs, after all.
Sorry if the chapter was short, but I wanted to leave a cliff-hanger, so yeah... Anyway, gotta go now! See ya later! ;)
