Amanda lay awake staring at the ceiling; no matter how hard she tried she couldn't stop thinking about her baby boy. Jake was fast asleep next to her, snoring lightly in his sleep as usual. She didn't understand why this was so easy for him; maybe it was just because the baby wasn't his. Even though Jake had told her that wonderful story about her son living with wonderful people in a beautiful cabin in the woods. She couldn't help but wonder if he missed her as much as she missed him. Did babies know when their mother wasn't really around?

With a sigh she swung her legs over the side of the bed and gently slid out trying not to wake up Jake in the process. She grabbed her robe off the foot of the bed and tied it around her as she slipped on her fluffy slippers and headed down the hall. Jake told her that it would take time, but she didn't believe him. No amount of time could make her forget the softness of his skin, the baby smell and the sound of his cries when he was taken away from her. She was crying softly to herself when she heard a noise behind her, she tried to wipe the tears away before Jake noticed that she had been crying again.
"Honey, what are you doing up?" he asked as he took a seat next to her on the couch.
"I couldn't sleep," she replied as he put his arm around her shoulders. He noticed that she had been crying again and he hated it. He knew what she wanted, she wanted her son back and he wanted to be able to give that to her. He wanted to see that smile on her face again the one she had on their wedding day.
"Oh Jake, I miss him." she cried as he pulled her into his chest, just holding her close as she cried.

It was times like these when he felt like the lies he was telling her would tear him apart. He had a plan and it was already in motion, soon enough everything would fall into place, he just knew it. He couldn't tell Amanda everything, not yet and he hated that he wasn't telling her the truth, especially in the first few months of their marriage. It was not a good start to their life together.
"I know baby, I know you miss him." Jake replied as he soothingly rubbed her back.
"I just wonder about him all the time, what he's thinking? How he's doing? If those people who are raising him are doing a good job?"
"Amanda the couple who are raising him are wonderful people. Remember what I told you, about the cabin in the woods."
"Yeah I know but..."
"I know you still worry and that's normal. He is your son and you want him to have the best life."
"I do and I wish it could be with me."
"I know I wish we could raise him together too." Jake said seriously. He really did wish that they could raise that boy together and they would as soon as they were able to.
