Hey guys and welcome to my first fic. I hope you enjoy it. If you hadn't guessed by the title it takes place during Girl in the Fireplace.
I don't own Doctor Who, heck I'm not even British but if I win the lottery you can guess the first thing I'm buying.
The Doctor quietly walked in to the bedroom of Versailles. He saw Reinette looking out the window, well he could only see the back of her but he knew it was her. Earlier she had asked him to meet her here and she implied some dancing might take place. But the Doctor had made up his mind. He stayed near the door to keep some distance between them because he knew what he had to say would hurt her.
"Reinette," he began softly, "I can't do this with you. It's wrong. Now don't get me wrong you're a very beautiful woman but I just can't do it."
The back of Reinette looked very confused but still, she said nothing. She didn't even turn to face the Doctor; she just kept looking out the window.
"Look Reinette," the Doctor continued, "I hate myself for saying this by the way, but it's not you it's me. I… I'm in love with someone else."
Madame de Pompadour now seemed very flustered. She started fanning herself but still she didn't say a word and she didn't turn around.
"She's my companion, Rose and," He couldn't believe he could say it out loud much less to another person, "I love her. I love everything about her she's, dare I say it, fantastic! Oh God, I love her. Practically perfect in every way." The Doctor knew the last line was bad but it was true, it was so, so true
Now Reinette started to cry. They weren't sobs or anything loud but soft gentle tears. The Doctor saw her body tremble slightly. He walked gently over to her and laid a hand on her shoulder.
"Reinette, I didn't mean to make you cry," He said plainly. He turned her around to look at him so she could see he really meant it. When she did turn around the Doctor received the biggest surprise of the night. He hadn't confessed his hearts' desire to Reinette, oh no, it was someone else entirely. It was none other than Rose Tyler herself. And she wasn't crying out of sadness, unless Rose always cried and smiled at the same time.
She finally spoke, barely above a whisper, "Doctor."
"Rose," is all he said, it was all he could say.
"Doctor, I love you too."
Now it was the Doctor's turn not to speak as he drew Rose closer to him and did something he had wanted to do for a long time, he kissed her.
And that night while Reinette danced with the king the Doctor danced with Rose Tyler.
I know this is said far to often but please read and review. Thank you for taking time out of your day to read my story.
