My name is Dusk Rose. I grew up in a small town just east of Galloping Gorge, and now I'm moving to Manehattan to start a garden shop. I've always had this thing with plants, I can just tell them to do things and they will.
When I was a little filly, I was growing this beautiful pink flower for my friend's birthday. But after a couple days, the flower began to droop. I was so upset, I stared at it for almost an hour, just hoping and wishing that it would stop drooping. The next morning I checked on it and it was back up, except then it was red.
I pull a couple of boxes up to the front door of my new garden shop/house. A light brown unicorn with a dark brown mane and cutie mark of a pencil over a newspaper is busy cleaning the windows of the building next door. Upon seeing me, a grin forms on her face and she walks up to me. I hide a groan. I'm not really in the mood for making friends, but I force a smile and try to act friendly.
"Hi!" the unicorn says to me. "I'm News Flash. I write a journal called Flash News in this building here." "I'm Dusk Rose, how are you?" We shake hooves. "I'm good," she says, turning her head away from me. "Frost! Frost, the pony who's moving in next door just arrived!"
A light blue pegasus with a blue mane and cutie mark of a snowflake floats down from the roof of a nearby building. "Hi." She says quietly, looking down at the ground. "I'm Frostbite." Her voice is slightly high-pitched but is also soothing and sounds like a song. "Dusk Rose" I introduce myself and we shake hooves, Frostbite still refusing to make eye contact.
"Hey, in case you want this…" News Flash levitates a newspaper over to me with her green magic. I really don't want it, but I take it and try to act thankful. "Thanks," I say with a fake smile. I walk away holding the newspaper and look at the title. "Manehatten Shadow Pony on the Loose" it read. Ha. I think. This will be a laugh.
