For Teddy
Think about the generations and to say we want to make it a better
world for our children and our children's children. So that they know
it's a better world for them; and think if they can make it a better
place.
Remus came to a stop; panting and coughing. He couldn't remember running faster in his whole life. Placing one hand against the rough, stone wall of the castle and clutching his wand tightly in his other hand he crouched down in a squat to try and catch his breath. He didn't bother closing his eyes. Closing his eyes blocked out the visions of spells flying through the air, the visions of bodies – dead and injured that littered the grounds of the place he had once found happiness. But closing his eyes didn't block out the screams of agony as countless witches and wizards were tortured and killed by the Death Eaters. He was alone. Totally and Completely alone – the last marauder. The thought brought bitter tears to his eyes. He didn't wipe them away. What was the point? Crying didn't mean one was weak. Shedding tears showed that one was strong enough to acknowledge emotion and pain, rather than shut it out like the man who had caused all this unnecessary pain and hardship.
Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me and the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for
You and for me
The tears continued to roll down Remus' pale face. He let them. He thought of his friends. He thought of James, always the show off, but he meant well. He was one of the bravest people Remus had ever met. He thought of Lily. Sweet, Kind, Beautiful Lily. She had always been there for him. He thought of Sirius, who had been put through so much, but stayed loyal to the very end. He also thought of Peter. Peter had always been the weakest. He had always wanted to live up to James and Sirius and Remus, and the only way to do that was to become more powerful than them. He had made mistakes, sure. Remus wanted to forgive him, but simply couldn't find it in him to forgive the rat who had taken everything from him. Mostly he thought of his wife and son. He knew it was a matter of time before Dora broke free from her mother's clutches and came to fight. He knew that this meant Teddy would be left without parents.
But if fighting to the death meant his son could grow up in a world free of this threat and overwhelming pain and prejudice, then Remus would fight until his last breath, for Teddy
