The water.

It seeped into her nose, mouth, eyes and ears. She waved her arms, trying to see through the dark, murky waters. Her legs were heavy and didn't seem to work anymore - she was inching forward, upward. She felt choked - her vision was extremely hazy and her lungs craved fresh air. Her skin was numb and taut like rubber with the cold.

Through the darkness, she glimpsed a dim light above her. Her mind raced - she had to get out. She had to be free.

Her tired, weak body fought itself to propell her along, her stiff blue fingers clawing at the water, which was fast getting the better of her. She cried out, emitting several bubbles of stale air, and no one heard her. At last, the light grew more visible.

She felt pain in her ankle - the pain of touch on frozen flesh - something was dragging her down. More of them came, dark shapes beneath her, pulling her into the depths. Her eyes screwed up in what seemed to be crying, but no tears escaped her eyes. She had no strength left to fight them, and let herself fall into the deep.

Her mind slowed, her eyes closed, her body relaxed and became still. Was she dying? She didn't know.

Where had the pain gone? It wasn't there anymore...and she was sure she'd been sad, but she didn't feel any of that now. It felt good to let go at last.

Slowly her mind begin to fall away, and she was nothing but a body, sinking into the dark.
