This is written for the Ungen Father's Day drabble challenge, which was to write a drabble about Father's Day, using the phrase Father's Day.

It's the Thought That Counts (Father's Day 1992)

Dean fidgeted, barely resisted tapping his foot. "What's wrong with that one?"

Sammy replaced the Special Dad card in its slot, last in a slew of carefully-read rejects. "Too—"

"Girly?"

Sam sighed, "Normal."

Dean glanced at the colorful array of card fronts: lawn mowers, sports games on TV, puppies with newspapers, jokes about borrowing money – all totally alien to the Winchester world.

"Nothin' says 'Thanks for keeping the monsters away.'" Sam whispered loudly, and Dean winced.

"I'll buy some construction paper and we'll make our cards." Dean ruffled Sammy's hair. "Homemade's best, anyway."

For pies and Father's Day cards.
