Goodbyes Aren't Forever
.
"Goodbyes aren't forever"
J.J. said to her
"My dear sweet Madeleine
We will be together
After this night is over
'Till the end of eternity
I will always be by your side
Whether you are with or without me
You step into this boat now
And I will go find mine
We will meet up very soon
So please dear, do not cry"
Reluctantly she slowly went
Though her heart said it was wrong
And the time it took to lower that boat
Seemed so very long
When John Jacob Astor was out of her sight
Madeleine Astor began to cry
Her love him and their memories
Burned brightly in her mind
"I love you, John," his young wife said
The tears poured down her cheeks
She knew that what the ocean takes
The ocean often keeps
The ocean swallowed the unsinkable ship
Right before her eyes
And screams of pain and fear and love
Made certain she knew the lies
The Titanic was just a ship
No match for Nature's power
And she would be a widow
By the end of that dark hour
Years went by with every minute
In the cold night air
She tried to believe her husband lived
But only filled with despair
She looked up to the heavens
And she began to pray
"Love will keep us together
Every single day
My dearest John, my husband,
You'll be with me everyday
Because goodbyes aren't forever"
. . . or are they?
